The coursework is an individual piece of work and each student will submit an analytical report of 2000 words, including supporting tables and graphs, on the financial aspects of Great Portland Estates. The financial statements can be obtained from www.gpe.co.uk.
The report should contain the following:
A brief description of the company
Performance evaluation from the point of view of UK shareholders/ potential investors:
Compute relevant financial ratios (liquidity, profitability, efficiency, solvency and investment ratios) for the company over the last three years (2013, 2014 & 2015), interpret and critically evaluate your findings. All calculations must be included in the appendix.
Identify and explain the capital structure of the company and its impact on the risk borne by a UK investor.
Explain the classification and accounting treatment of different types of property within the companys financial statements.
Recommendations on possible course of action.
Assessment Criteria
1.Define and use accounting and financial terms when analysing annual reports.
2.Critically analyse, interpret and evaluate corporate annual reports using ratio analysis.
3.Calculation of ratios.
4.Identify the different sources of funding.
5.Identify the accounting treatment of property.
Marks will be awarded for good presentation and communication including correct use of English, spelling and grammar.
