Assume that your own strengths and abilities, including your university studies, will be key and important to the success of your proposal for the project.

Even the most superficial of presentations calls for some kind of preparation. An “elevator speech,” which summarizes a topic in minutes, if not seconds, calls for lightning thought and reflexive application of the rhetorical triangle, grammar, outlining, content knowledge, and logic as you are standing there. For more elaborate and considered presentations, you should reflect on your topic and on the implications and potential for your message. If presenting yourself, you want to be seen as a mature professional and in the best light. If presenting discipline-related material, you want to be seen as a mature and reflective professional, who has not only laid out a mechanical and logical outline of the material, but who has linked the material, with meaning, to the audience.

For this Individual Project, you will create a sentence outline for a presentation and informally share your ideas for approaching the visual elements of a presentation.

Using your thoughts from earlier in the course and your elevator speech ideas, create a sentence outline for a 10-minute presentation about a discipline-related topic in which you propose a small project or professional action to an audience of mid-level executives.

The outline should indicate the flow and content for your anticipated presentation.

Incorporate an introduction of yourself, and link your background, experience, goals, and education to the topic. Imagine that the audience has not met you or that they do not know you very well. Assume that your own strengths and abilities, including your university studies, will be key and important to the success of your proposal for the project. Be sure the outline reflects solid organization and process.

In Unit 4, you will give a final presentation based on this outline, so be sure to provide enough information for future use. Therefore, use a sentence outline format rather than simply jotting down one- or two-word topics.

After you complete the outline, add a paragraph or two sharing your initial thought process for determining visual support for your presentation. Consider color choice, font choice, use of white space, layout, and so on. Refer to intellipath, unit resources, and your assigned readings for additional ideas

Discuss how the selected organizational theory and theorist fit into the school of thought of that time period.

In the first assignment, students are given a scenario in which the shipping manager who has worked for Recycled Furnishings since the inception of the company is getting ready to retire. The scenario serves to set the stage for students to demonstrate how management theories have changed over time. For example, managing 30 years ago is different than managing in the 21st century.

In selecting an organizational theory that best describes the current shipping manager, students have to use the timeline to select a school of thought and a theory or theories of that time frame. Students will need to research the theorist and theories to complete the assignment and answer the questions below. Students are expected to be thorough in responding to Part One.

In Part Two, students are going to take what they have learned in weeks 1 – 3 and compare the management skills of the current shipping manager to that of you as the new shipping manager.

Part One

Recycled Furnishings is a division of an international home furnishing company called Thor Enterprises. Recycled Furnishings makes glass sofas for outdoor use from recycled bottles and glass. The business has grown rapidly in the last thirty years and now that it has become a division of Thor Enterprises, the company is going international. The shipping manager for Recycled Furnishings has been in his job since the start of the company. He is going to retire. You have been hired as his replacement.

Select an organizational theory that you believe best describes the current shipping manager and which explains the organization and its structure;

Identify the theorist(s) who proposed the theory;

Discuss how the selected organizational theory and theorist fit into the school of thought of that time period.

Address the principles of the theory and how the manager would do his job and interact with his staff.

Using the course readings and your own research, explain in detail how you arrived at your conclusions.

Part Two

You would like to characterize yourself as a 21st century manager.

As a 21st century manager, compare the way you would manage versus the way of your predecessor.

What implications do the changes in management have for the future of Thor?

How will the new approach to the job likely change the shipping division?

Why did the Southern states secede from the Union in 1860 and 1861, according to the scholars studied?

Civil war it must be 4 pages, double spaces.  Please no plagiarism

Defenders of the Confederate Flag, be it the familiar battle flag or the less-familiar “national” flag, generally present two basic arguments for their position.  The first is a political and constitutional argument, namely that flying the flag is a First Amendment (freedom of speech) right protected by the United States Constitution and reflects a traditional commitment to states’ rights.  The second argument is a cultural argument claiming that the Confederate flag represents a prideful Southern heritage and celebration of ancestry, not a racist defense of slavery and white supremacy.  “Heritage, not Hate,” such defenders claim of the flag’s meaning.  And they often add, “If this flag offends you, you need a history lesson.”  (See examples below)  The implication here, of course, is that Southern secession, the creation of the Confederate States of America, and the Confederate armies’ primary purpose in fighting the Civil War centered on the Constitution and states’ rights, not black slavery and white supremacy.

Using arguments and evidence from James McPherson’s articles “And the War Came” and “Long-Legged Yankee Lies,” as well as the Lost Cause panel from the 2015 Signature Conference of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, assess the historical accuracy of the arguments made by Confederate flag defenders.  According to scholars, are Confederate flag defenders correct in their understanding of the Civil War’s causes and the purpose of the Confederacy and its flags during that conflict?  Why or why not?  Why did the Southern states secede from the Union in 1860 and 1861, according to the scholars studied?  What is the idea of the “Lost Cause,” and how does it inform the arguments made in defense of the Confederate flag today?  Be as specific as possible, using arguments and evidence from assigned material to make your point(s).  The body of the completed essay must be at least four double-spaced, typed pages in length

Assume that the work would involve several instructor-led training sessions, developing a training video that employees could view from the company’s intranet site.

Complete the two tasks associated with project procurement management. Put all your work on one word document. Separate your tasks by headings and/or page inserts.Remember… turn your work in on a word document as ONE attachment for grading.

NOTE: This is the final installment of the running case started in week three. Tasks based on this case are explained following the case study. We have explored 9 knowledge areas of project integration management, scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communications, risk, and finally procurement management.
Project Procurement Management: Case Study

Senior management at Manage Your Health, Inc. (MYH) decided that it would be best to outsource employee training on the Recreation and Wellness system, which will be rolled out soon. MYH also wants to outsource the incentive program designed to motivate employees to use the system and improve their health. MYH feels that the right outside company could get people excited about the system and provide a good incentive program. As part of the seller selection process, MYH will require interviews and samples of similar work to be presented to a review team. Recall that MYH has more than 20,000 full-time employees and more than 5,000 part-time employees. Assume that the work would involve several instructor-led training sessions, developing a training video that employees could view from the company’s intranet site, developing a training manual for the courses that anyone can download from the intranet site, developing an incentive program for using the system and improving health, creating surveys to assess the training and incentive programs, and developing monthly presentations and reports on the work completed. The initial contract would last one year, with annual renewal options.
Assignment – Project Procurement Management: 2 Tasks

Suppose that your team has discussed management’s request. You agree that it makes sense to have another organization manage the incentive program for this new application, but you do not think it makes sense to outsource the training. Your company has extensive experience doing internal training. You also know that your staff will have to support the system, so you want to develop the training to minimize future support calls.

Write a one-page memo to senior management stating why you think the training should be done in-house.
Assume that the source selection criteria for evaluating proposals are as follows:
Management approach, 15%
Technical approach, 15%
Past performance, 20%
Price, 20%
Interview results and samples, 30%

Using weighted scoring model template as a guide, create a spreadsheet that could be used to enter ratings and calculate scores for each criterion and total weighted scores for three proposals. Enter scores for Proposal 1 as 80, 90, 70, 90, and 80, respectively. Enter scores for Proposal 2 as 90, 50, 95, 80, and 95. Enter scores for Proposal 3 as 60, 90, 90, 80, and 65. Add a paragraph to the spreadsheet that summarizes the results and your recommendation.

Discuss the ways in which they fit with the crime and the specific demographics associated with the crime.

Assignment 2: LASA 1 Analyzing Theories of Crime

You are an investigative reporter for a large news network. You are working on a news piece identifying how theories of crime explain specific crimes including the demographics of perpetrators and victims. You are required to make a thirty-minute presentation to your producers to convince them to run your story.

Choose a specific crime from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program at the following:

US Department of Justice, The Federal Bureau of Investigation. (2009). 2008 Crime in the United States: About crime in the U.S. Retrieved from

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2008

Research this crime using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Be sure to include the UCR and other crime reports in your research

Based on your research, develop a presentation that addresses the following:

Define the crime. Include both the legal definition and others as necessary.
Summarize demographics of the crime for both the perpetrators and the victim. Be sure to cover the following:
Gender
Ethnicity
Socioeconomic characteristics
Other relevant diversity issues
Choose two theories of the causes of crime that have been discussed and analyzed so far in the course; apply those theories to the selected crime. Be sure to cover the following:
Explain the type of each theory in detail.
Discuss the development of each theory and the main theorists associated with them.
Compare and contrast the two theories of crime selected. Discuss the ways in which they fit with the crime and the specific demographics associated with the crime.
Based on your research, develop your own hypothesis of the cause of this crime. Using the theories that you have chosen, you can develop your own “combination” theory.
Give valid reasons and scholarly, peer-reviewed sources in support of your theory.

You are allowed to present your theory in first person; however, be careful not to abuse this privilege.

Your presentation should include the following:

A title slide and a reference slide (these will not count towards the total number of slides).
At least five sentences of speaker notes for each section to clarify anything not included in the slides. (As this is a presentation the slides should cover the main points and the details should be covered in the speaker’s notes.) The speaker notes should be properly referenced.

Develop a 10–15-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt.

Grading Criteria and Rubric

Describe in detail how you will conduct the research needed to determine the best alternative to recommend to your employer.

Due Week 3 and worth 150 points

In Assignments 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, you will be building up a formal, researched justification report (one part at a time) that culminates in a recommendation to implement a particular product, service, or program in your place of employment. This recommended product, service, or program should resolve a problem that you identify in your workplace and should be directed to your employer (even if you do not actually plan to share it with your employer).

Use the basic outline below to draft Assignment 2. Organize your responses to each question under the following section headings:

  • Problem Statement (for Question 1)
  • Overview of Alternatives (for Question 2)
  • Criteria (for Question 3)
  • Methods (for Question 4)

Using the provided template, write Part 1 of a single-spaced report in which you:

  1. Discuss in detail a problem at work, persuading and convincing the reader that it needs fixing.
  2. Provide a detailed description of two (2) possible solutions (“alternatives”) that could be implemented to resolve the problem identified in Question 1.
  3. List and detail five (5) criteria that you will use to measure the worth of each alternative in Question 2. Note: The alternative that satisfies the most criteria to the highest degree will be the one you recommend later to your employer (in Assignment 2.3). Criteria are standards that the audience values and are therefore used to measure the worth of each alternative (common examples include cost, desirability, durability, efficiency, time it will take to implement, and practicality).
  4. Describe in detail how you will conduct the research needed to determine the best alternative to recommend to your employer. Note: This is a one to two (1-2) paragraph description of what research needs to be completed in order to evaluate the alternatives. This is not a detailed procedure for solving the problem.

Your assignment must:

  • Be typed, single spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, your name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length

Explain that the interview will take approximately one hour and the purpose is to help you better understand the processes involved in special education and the experiences.

Choose a person to interview. Explain that the interview will take approximately one hour and the purpose is to help you better understand the processes involved in special education and the experiences and educational philosophies of a teacher or caregiver who works with young children who have special needs. The following is additional guidance for planning your interview:

Confirm the best way to conduct the interview—face to face, by phone, or by e-mail. Agree on a date and time. Be sure you have the meeting address, phone number, or e-mail address, as well as permission to do the interview.
Ask the age and category(ies) of special needs of the child or children the teacher or caregiver works with, to help you prepare for the interview.
Review the readings from this week and related readings from Week 1 on early intervention.
Read the section or sections in your text that cover the specific category or categories that pertain to the child or children in the teacher or caregiver’s setting. (You may need to read ahead.) Try to tune into any overgeneralizations and stereotypes that you do not want to bring to the conversation.
If you plan to tape-record the interview, test your recorder to be sure it works

Create a form that includes areas the supervisors should be graded on and the relative weight or importance assigned to each category.

You are the newly appointed department manager. Your department has not been performing well, and you have been investigating why. You soon realize that the firm has had no formal performance appraisal system. Supervisors that need to do a better job have not been receiving any kind of formal feedback.

To correct this situation, you will begin by creating a performance grading form that will be used to assess the front-line supervisor’s performance. Create a form that includes areas the supervisors should be graded on and the relative weight or importance assigned to each category. For example, should 30% of the weight be assigned to communication skills versus 20% for coaching skills?

You want to make sure that the grading form reflects what you feel are the indicators of a good front-line supervisor’s performance.

Create the form including the relative weights of each category and the grading scale to use (for example, for grading criteria you could use 1–9; low, mid, or high; or poor, mediocre, average, or excellent). Justify why you chose those criteria and why you assigned particular weights.
