The following topic(s) will demonstrate what the discussion is about, but feel free to branch off or expand on the topics. In addition to this discussion, you will be asked to craft a 150 word reflection on what you have learned through this conversation and post it to the Reflection Journal. The more active you are in this part of the discussion, the more you will have to draw from in your reflection, so get involved, be active, help out your classmates when they need it, and, most of all, enjoy the conversation.

In the book Pour Your Heart Into It, Schulz relied on several people for advice when he was following his dreams. Think about a time when you have given or received advice. Was it helpful? Was it not so good advice? Additionally, list two or more traits you would like to see in a mentor. Why are these traits important to you?

Question 2. How does globalization of domestic brands present unique culture problems abroad? How could these issues be avoided? How does an understanding of your culture allow you to better understand the culture of others?

Question 3. Why would a multicultural household be an attractive target for marketers? Explain your answer and provide a few examples of how a marketer might attempt to capture those consumers

What does this case tell you about how much influence a business can have with regard to its suppliers’ decisions and behaviors?

Describe the problem faced by Vlasic. Why were they unable to oppose the sales plan put forth by Wal-Mart? Ultimately, how did responding to Wal-Mart affect their business?
Was this an ethical supply chain decision on the part of Wal-Mart? Also, highlight any sustainable ethics that was involved here.
What does this case tell you about how much influence a business can have with regard to its suppliers’ decisions and behaviors? What does this say about the conventional notions of the responsibility of firms for the practices of their suppliers (both in terms of individual firms and collectively)? Is it reasonable for consumers (or even regulators) to hold firms accountable?

Do you think in our current information-saturated culture that the arts still have the ability to sway popular opinion?

This week, answer all three of the questions below. You should reference your book as well as online materials for the answers to these questions (remember to cite outside resources). Your answers should be in essay format, be a minimum of three-five sentences each, and include at least three glossary terms per question.

  1. Visit the Google Art Project: http://www.museothyssen.org/en/thyssen/zoom_obra/1062. Look at Hotel Room, a painting by Edward Hopper in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
    • Describe in formal terms how the strong verticals and horizontals securely hold the parts of the painting together. What does the diagonal of the bed provide? Now move close and examine the paint work. How do the near-architectural elements fit with the lush paint?
  2. Re-Read the article in this week chapter Art and Society, “Degenerate Art,” AND go online and watch the video “Art in Nazi Germany,” at SmartHistory (LINK: http://smarthistory.khanacademy.org/national-socialist-nazi-art.html?searched=degenerate&highlight=ajaxSearch_highlight+ajaxSearch_highlight1) After reading the article in the book and watching the online video, and based on your understanding of the threat that ideas generated by the arts can have to repressive governments, what are your thoughts on something like this happening in the United States? Do you think in our current information-saturated culture that the arts still have the ability to sway popular opinion?
  3. Identify and Detail:
  • Who is the artist?
  • Which movement does this represent and why?
  • What is the subject of this

Identify which approach you believe is the most morally correct for resolving the common conflicts about the morality of war.

Do you believe it was ethical for the United States to apply restrictions on servicemen and women under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”? Based on this course’s discussion of military ethics and Just War theory, is it ethical for the U.S. military to ban certain Americans from military service? Now that the 1994 National Defense Authorization Act was repealed in September 2011, what are the military readiness and unit morale concerns with regards to allowing homosexuals to serve openly in the military?

Question 2

In “’We aren’t here to do the decent thing;: Saving Private Ryan and the Morality of War,” William Prior discusses some of the major themes from the movie focusing on four perspectives in moral conflict and three approaches to resolving these moral conflicts.

Identify which approach you believe is the most morally correct for resolving the common conflicts about the morality of war. Why do you think this is the best approach? Support your answer with theory or evidence from this course as well as your personal beliefs

What are some of the investigative methods that you would use to identify the perpetrators of the identity theft crimes?

You are the director of Worldwide Security for a Fortune 500 credit agency, a certified fraud examiner (CFE), an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and you have in excess of twenty fraud investigators. You make presentations to universities throughout the country as well as at professional conferences about the dangers and true occurrences of fraud. You were just asked to review a case of identity theft of university professors, which started out as a couple professors receiving unexplained bills.Within a month, fifteen professors from all of the different departments started noticing unexplained charges and credit accounts on their credit reports. The new accounts took the form of credit cards, revolving credit accounts, car loans, school loans, and so forth. You were asked for your help because you are an expert in the field.

Please post an answer to 5 of the following 7 questions. Support your answers with academic or real life criminal justice examples to accentuate your point.

  • In your opinion, what would be your plan to review the case of identity theft toward the university professors? Why?
  • Do you think identity theft can be controlled? How would you propose to control it or at least slow it down?
  • How would you protect the college professors from any fraudulent acts against them after the identity theft has been discovered?
  • How would you identify all of the victims of identity theft? How would identifying all of the victims help you in your investigation?
  • What are some of the investigative methods that you would use to identify the perpetrators of the identity theft crimes?
  • If you were requested by the president of the college to create a loss prevention education workshop for the staff and professors, what would you include in the workshop? How would you evaluate the success of the lessons being presented in the workshop?
  • What punishment do you think the perpetrator should receive for his or her crime?
  • Paper length 3-5 pages

Explain what you think the citizens of a nation might gain or lose through their liberty.

Liberty

In Lecture 1, we explored how “liberty” was interpreted by the Founders of the American Constitution. These Founding Fathers were influenced by political philosophers who argued that liberty is always at risk, and because of that risk, liberty must be protected, not just by the leaders of a nation, but also by the citizens.

While our founding fathers realized government was necessary to protect the citizens from criminals and outsiders (Lecture 2, comments about the King of England), they were concerned with amount of power the government should be given. To ensure that the people maintained power, the first Ten (10) Amendments (also called: The Bill of Rights) were added.

For this week’s assignment, write a 500-750 word essay addressing each of the following questions:

What is liberty? Provide a definition and at least one example.
Why does it matter? Explain what you think the citizens of a nation might gain or lose through their liberty.
What is your personal responsibility to protect it? Provide examples of what you can do, what you should do, and what you must do.
In modern times, do you think Americans have gained/maintained liberty in the way the Founding Fathers described it in the Constitution? Why or why not?

As in all your weekly written assignments, be sure to tie your writing to the readings for that week. You should strive to demonstrate to your instructor (and to the rest of the university) your full understanding of the course concepts being addressed. Don’t just answer the questions; really think them through. How will your ideas fit within Locke’s “social contract?”

Submit your work as an attached file. Double-space your paper and use 12 point Times NewRoman as your font.
