Demonstrate the ability to design, compile, implement, test, and debug simple programs in Java.

Suppose you are a Java programmer for an investment company. Your Chief Technology Officer (CTO) has asked you to development an interactive Java application that will be used by investment advisors to analyze clients’ bank portfolios. The application must show the investment advisor the total value of the assets, and the value of the individual assets (savings account, stocks investments, and bonds investments).

Section 1: Java Program File

  1. Create a Java program according to the specifications stated below:
  • Include a composition class called “FinancialPortofolio”
  • Public attributes for the composition class must include the client’s first name (string data type), last name (string data type),  portfolio number (integer data type), and total value of the portfolio (double data type)
  • The composition class must include a savings account class called “SavingsAccount” with the following public attributes: an account number (string), and an account balance (double)
  • The composition class must include a bonds class called “Bonds” with the following public attributes: bond name (string), face value (double), and number of bonds (integer)
  • The composition class must include a stocks class called “Stocks” with the following public attributes: stock name (string), stock value (float), and number of shares (integer)
  • Create setters and getters methods for all the public attributes in each of the classes
  • Create objects that prompt the user (investment advisor) to enter all of the values for each of the classes
  • The savings account object must add the balance to the portfolio total value
  • The bonds object must add the total bonds value (bond value multiplied by the number of bonds) to the portfolio total value
  • The stocks object must add the total stocks value (stock value multiplied by the number of shares) to the total portfolio value
  • When a user (investment advisor) runs the Java program, it must prompt the advisor to enter the financial portfolio data, savings account data, stocks data, and bonds data. The program must compute the total value of the portfolio for each asset (savings account, stocks, and bonds).
  • When all of the data has been entered and the total value of the portfolio has been calculated, the program must display the results using the following format as an example:

Portfolio Name:      Jane’s Portfolio

Savings account:   Blue Bank ($2000.00)

Bonds:                   Derby ($3000.00)

Stocks:                  IBM ($10000.00)

Portfolio value:      $15000.00

Section 2:  Screen Shot of the Output and Description of Your Java Program

2. Create a screen shot of the interactive session output, and include a description of your Java program.

  • Submit a screen shot which shows the output of your Java Program. Note: Go to http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ if you need a tutorial on taking a screen shot.

Project Deliverable 3: Database and Data Warehousing Design
Due Week 6 and worth 120 points
This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a design document and a revised project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.
One of the main functions of any business is to transform data into information. The use of relational databases and data warehousing has gained recognition as a standard for organizations. A quality database design makes the flow of data seamless. The database schema is the foundation of the relational database. The schema defines the tables, fields, relationships, views, indexes, and other elements. The schema should be created by envisioning the business, processes, and workflow of the company. Since your company is an innovative Internet-based company, movement toward data warehousing seems to be one of the most viable options to give your company a competitive advantage; however, these concepts must be explained to the executive board in a manner to garner support.
Section 1: Design Document
Write a six to ten (6-10) page design document in which you:

Support the need for the use of relational databases and data warehousing. From a management standpoint, it may be important to show the efficiencies that can be gained for executive oversight.
Create a database schema that supports the company’s business and processes. Explain and support the database schema with relevant arguments that support the rationale for the structure. Note: The minimum requirement for the schema should entail the tables, fields, relationships, views, and indexes.
Identify and create database tables with appropriate field-naming conventions. Then, identify primary keys and foreign keys, and explain how referential integrity will be achieved. Normalize the database tables to third normal form (3NF).
Identify and create an Entity-Relationship (E-R) Diagram relating the tables of the database schema through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Visio or an open source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length but must be included in the design document appendix. Explain your rationale behind the design of the E-R Diagram.
Identify and create a Data Flow Diagram (DFD) relating the tables of your database schema through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Visio or an open source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length but must be included in the design document appendix. Explain the rationale behind the design of your DFD.
Illustrate the flow of data including both inputs and outputs for the use of a data warehouse. The diagram should map data between source systems, operational systems, data warehouses and specified data marts. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
Include charts or diagrams created in MS Visio or Dia as an appendix of the design document. All references to these diagrams must be included in the body of the design document.

How has technology changed the way manager define how tasks are performed within an organizational structure?

Annie is considering amending her current organizational structure.  Using your reading  to support the reasoning, advise Annie on the organizational structure that might work well to help solve her project problem:

Project:  Annie Oakley wishes to develop the business to incorporate a new style of rifle that is computer generated, plastic, and collapsible.  The rifle also takes plastic bullets. This process must cost less than 1 million dollars and take less than 2 months to produce.  Annie has one large client who will pay 3 times her investment and is anxious to accept the project.  However, it will be a one of a kind project and Annie is not sure others will have a use for the gun in the future.

Annie currently has four leadership team members that each head up a division: rifle design, rifle manufacture, customer service, and sales. They each have final decision making authority within their departments.  Annie says that she is thinking of creating an additional link in the decision train for the new project with one department head that like the other division heads, reports to the leadership team.  Annie feel the need to disband the project after the client sale is complete.  Annie would like to know what would happen if the fifth link were self-contained.  Explain how you would allocate the resources of the company to make the new link in the decision train work on a daily basis?  Be creative yet practical thinking of the types of people you would need to accomplish the goal, financial resources, human capital, etc.  Be sure to consider the various other departments and how they would interface with the project team.  Alternatively, how would the link work if it were self- contained?

Learning Activity 2 – Theme 2

Choose one of the two questions below and answer it using the weekly readings and two external sources to support your reasoning.

1)    How has technology changed the way manager define how tasks are performed within an organizational structure?

2)    One of the manager’s job is to keep stability within an organization. What happens to structure when the walls are missing? How do tasks get complete and by whom?

Don’t forget to include your in-text citations and references in your responses.  Also, please make sure that you post your learning activities (LAs) separately.
