Complete a research Paper on Prison Culture. Be sure to discuss the inmate subculture, the norms and values of prison society, its social structure and prison argot. This is a formal research paper and you should use APA to complete the assignment. It must be prepared in MS Word. Support your findings with citations and references from your research and web-based research. The paper should be at least 8 pages double spaced and you should provide at least five (5) sources of research: two (2) must be from academic journals. All work must be your own unless properly cited. Do not use the textbook or unreliable web sources such as Wikipedia as a resource.

For your Final Paper, you will demonstrate your knowledge of psychopathology and apply your skills to a realistic scenario. Throughout this course, you have developed unique knowledge and skill sets that will allow you to critically analyze depictions of psychopathology in popular media and historical case examples from an informed point of view.

Your Final Paper will be a psychological report that may be based on a character from a movie or a historical case study. Review the provided lists of movies and historical case studies that are approved for use in this assignment. You must choose from these lists. You may not use examples from your personal life in the psychological report since doing so would be unethical (see Standards 2.04 and 9.01a in the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct).

As you create this report, you will be taking on the role of a clinician who is conducting an assessment and providing treatment recommendations for a patient (a character from your selected film or historical case study). Please note that a psychological report does not follow the same structure for reports you may have used in other courses. Your report must follow the format below and it must include each of the sections and their headings listed in this order:

Identifying Information

Within this section, you will describe basic information on your patient, including the person’s name, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, race, occupation, and location of residence (country, state, and region).
Chief Complaint/Presenting Problem

Within this section, you will include the patient’s primary complaint verbatim to identify the main source of his or her distress and/or concerns. If there is no verbatim complaint, include observable information to create an overall picture of the presenting problem.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to address the following question (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

What are the patient’s complaints? (e.g., the patient might complain about “feeling on edge” or experiencing stress)
Symptoms

Within this section, you will interpret specific behavioral issues and intrapsychic conflicts as they relate to abnormal behavior, behavior patterns, maladaptive thought processes, and potential unconscious conflicts. Interpret and comment on the patient’s chief complaint and/or presenting problem in the context and language of the symptoms found in the DSM-5. (e.g., the patient who complains about “feeling on edge” might actually be experiencing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress disorder or generalized anxiety disorder)
Personal History

Within this section, you will analyze your patient’s personal background and history of abnormal behavior(s) that inform your diagnostic impression. You will also gather information about the patient’s cultural background and cultural norms.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

Where did the patient grow up?
What cultures did the patient experience throughout life?
What was the patient’s school life like?
What were his or her grades? What is his or her highest level of education?
What is the patient’s interpersonal relationship history?
What was/is the patient’s romantic relationship history?
What was/is the patient’s friendship history?
Family History

Within this section, you will analyze the patient’s familial relationship(s) and identify any abnormalities that might affect future treatment. You will also integrate information about the patient’s family and cultural background to identify any maladaptive behaviors and relational patterns.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

How old were the patient’s parents when the patient was born?
Who were the patient’s primary caregivers?
What was/is family life like? (Include any information relevant to your diagnostic impression.)
Did the family move often?
What was/is the patient’s relationship with their siblings (if applicable)?
What culture did/does the family come from?
What belief systems are attached to that culture?
Therapy History

Within this section, you will describe the patient’s therapy history to inform your diagnostic impression. Analyze the patient’s therapy history to identify the effectiveness of previous treatment(s). Analyze previous treatment interventions based on information and knowledge of the patient’s cultural background.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

Who was the previous therapist (if applicable)?
How long did the previous therapy/therapies last?
What was the patient’s diagnosis?
What interventions did the therapist(s) use?
Were those interventions appropriate for the patient’s culture?
Was treatment successful?
Medical Conditions

Within this section, you will analyze the patient’s medical history and comment on any possible medical conditions that could influence your diagnostic impression. Interpret specific behavioral issues as they relate to salient medical conditions. If the person has any medical conditions, indicate that in this section. Integrate information and knowledge about the patient’s cultural background as it affects treatment options for medical conditions.
Substance Use

Within this section, you will analyze and comment on the patient’s substance use to identify any potential issues that could influence your diagnostic impression. Interpret specific behavioral issues as they relate to substance use. If the person misuses specific substances, indicate that in this section. Integrate information and knowledge about the patient’s cultural background to inform your interpretation of substance misuse in this patient’s case.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

Which substances does the patient use? (Include any over-the-counter, herbal, and/or prescription medications.)
For how long has the patient used the substance?
What is the patient’s quantity and frequency of use?
Collateral

Within this section, you will interpret specific collateral information as it relates to your patient’s abnormal behavior and behavior patterns. You will also integrate information and knowledge regarding the patient’s culture in your evaluation of the maladaptive behavior as reported by the collateral sources.

Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):

What do other people have to say about the patient’s behavior?
Are there any commonalities between the collateral sources’ reports?
Do the collateral sources have any psychological issues that might exacerbate the patient’s problems?
Are there any police reports?
Are there any personality testing or intelligence testing reports available?
Results of Evaluation

Within this section, you will analyze the patient’s behavior and mental processes. There are two parts to this section. To begin your analysis, you will write a brief evaluation of each theory of personality development that you learned about in this course and determine whether or not each theoretical orientation can be used to conceptualize the patient’s current situation and treatment goals. Next, use one major theoretical orientation to write an in-depth analysis for your results of evaluation section. Within the context of this theoretical perspective, you will analyze all of the information from the previous sections. Analyze specific behaviors, cognitions, and intrapsychic processes as they relate to your diagnostic impression. Integrate knowledge of the patient’s cultural background and norms within that culture as you prepare your supporting evidence

A Class Divided explores the nature of prejudice. Third grade teacher Jane Elliott deliberately created a classroom situation to teach her students how it feels to be on the receiving end of discrimination. This is an encore presentation of the classic documentary on third-grade teacher Jane Elliott’s “blue eyes/brown eyes” exercise, originally conducted in the days following the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. This classic classroom experiment, conducted in the late 1960s in a small Midwestern town, demonstrates how quickly and easily schoolchildren can internalize prejudice and discriminate. Years later, these children discuss the valuable lessons they learned from this experiment. Elliott employs this same teaching strategy with a group of adults in the workplace, and discusses their reactions.

This assignment is designed to allow you to synthesize what you have been learning about the various dimensions of diversity and the necessity of treating everyone in an inclusive, sensitive and respectful manner.

Discrimination Paper Part I: Interpersonal Reflection

After viewing the video, consider the following questions and write your response. Your response should be 4-5 pages and should address each question thoroughly, reflecting an accurate representation of what you have learned in this course. Demonstrate scholarship by utilizing supporting resources to justify your ideas and responses:

What did you learn from the film? What scene or scenes do you think you’ll still remember a month from now and why those scenes?
Did any part of the film surprise you? Do you think someone with a disability, of a different sexual orientation, an older American or some of a different religion would also find it surprising? Why or why not?

Discrimination Paper Part II: Personal Interview

For Part II of this assignment, you will have a conversation with someone who you feel may have faced discrimination. Examples include someone with a disability, an older American, someone who is a sexual minority, or someone who lives in a multicultural family. After choosing an individual to interview, explain to this individual what you have seen in the Class Divided program. Invite them to watch the program, or parts of the program, with you. After watching or discussing the program, pose the following questions to the individual. Be sure to explain the reason for your questions and why you have selected them to participate in the interview:

What, if any, discrimination do you experience?
How have you coped with this situation?
What do you think needs to change at the cultural level to reduce discrimination?

Following your refection (Part I listed above), add 2-3 pages to your paper which addresses the following:

A description of the individual you chose to interview and why. Explain how you went about approaching this individual for the interview.
What are your observations about the person’s view of discrimination and how it affects his/her daily life?
Did the interaction with the person change your view of discrimination? If so, explain how the interaction has affected you either positively or negatively. If it did not change your view of discrimination, explain why.
How well do you think you would cope with discrimination from this person’s perspective?
Finally, what is the best manner in which to advocate for those facing discrimination? What actions will you change based on what you have learned in this course and how will you serve as an advocate for those individuals who face discrimination?

Your final assignment, consisting of both Part I and II, should be approximately 6 -8 pages. Be sure to address each topic listed above and, as appropriate, cite the online course, the textbook, and other credible sources to substantiate the points you are making. Part Two:

A clinical psychologist would like to determine whether there is a relationship between observer ratings of children’s avoidant behaviors and scores on an established diagnostic interview assessing childhood anxiety disorders. He administers the diagnostic interview to 28 children and records these scores. He then trains an observer to independently rate carefully-defined avoidant behaviors for each of the 28 children. These scores are totaled for an overall “avoidant behavior index.” On both the interview and the behavioral ratings, a higher score indicates higher levels of behaviors/symptoms. These scores are listed in the table below. Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine whether there is a relationship between the interview scores and behavioral ratings for this group of children.

The steps will be the same as the ones you have been practicing in Part One of the assignment—the only difference is that you are now responsible for creating the data file as well. Assignment 1: LASA 2: Examining Your Community’s Source of Energy

It is easy to criticize society for not using renewable resources, but in reality, how difficult would this transition be? What processes and procedures would be involved? How would such a transition be made?

The purpose of this assignment is for you to consider what type of energy your neighborhood is currently powered by and what it would really take to convert this source to a renewable one. How much would it take to switch your community to a renewable resource and what would this mean for the environment?

For the assignment, complete the following:

Identify three primary types of energy that powers your home as well as all of the homes in your community. You may find this information on your community Web site or the Web sites of the local power companies. For example, your community may use electricity and solar panels. (My community, which is Cleveland, Ohio, uses natural gas, electricity, and solar power)
Explain how the sources of energy you identified impact the environment. Consider the following:
Does the use of these types of energy resource have a negative impact on the environment in your area?
Does your community have nuclear waste to dispose of?
Has your community always used these three power sources? If so, how do you feel this has impacted the environment over time?
How much of an impact have these sources of energy had on local air and water quality?
Considering the current source(s) of power available, determine how much energy your house uses each month. You can find this information on your monthly energy bill. (I use 8,332 kWh/month)

Calculate your annual usage for a year. Using this value, estimate the energy consumption for your community. The US Census Bureau is one resource you can use to estimate the number of households in your community.

You can use the following formulae for this calculation:

(monthly energy usage) × (12 months per year) = (household energy usage per year);

(yearly energy estimate for your house) × (estimated number of houses in your community) = (estimated yearly energy use for your community)

The following is an example of the above calculation:

52.8 kilowatt hours (kwh) per month × 12 months = 633.6 kwh;

633.6 kwh × 200 houses in your community = 126,720 kwh

Recommend a realistic, renewable resource to power your community, using your calculated power needs. Consider the following sources: hydropower, solar power, wind turbines, and geothermal energy.
Which source would be the best for your community? (Use hydropower, since Cleveland is close to bodies of water)
Justify your choice based on the kind of resources that are available, how much power these alternative sources can produce, and your estimated energy demands for the community.
Having recommended an alternative power source, conclude by addressing the following:
How realistic is this alternative power source for your community?
How will people in your community respond to energy conversion? Will they support it or be against it? Give reasons.
How expensive would it be to convert to the alternative power source you recommended? How would this new source impact the environment?
What organisms would benefit most from this conversion?

Select a Diagnostic Model (see Chapter Five) that you utilize to review aspects of change activities and actions that have been taken by the companies chosen. Here we are looking at the “parts” of the companies as well as their strategies, as surmised by your research in Part 1. It is acknowledged that this information will not be complete, as you are looking at these companies as an outsider; but a thoroughly researched paper will give enough data to allow some (well-defended) assumptions on your part.

Here’s what to do:

Choose one Diagnostic Model (i.e. 6-box, 7S, congruence, or etc.) to apply to the two chosen companies. Choose the model which you feel best identifies and measures the relevant aspects of the organization’s performance and therefore the diagnostic choices made will affect your findings.
Apply the data obtained in your research through an analysis of the appropriate chosen model. This will allow you to create a diagnosis of where each company is today (as per the criteria of the model).
Create a SWOT Analysis for each of the two chosen companies change plans/programs, utilizing information obtained in the diagnosis. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats.)
Compare the two company analyses to each other and offer your perspective (value judgment) of the effectiveness of the changes made to date in each case.
