What might be some advantages of distributed intelligence vis-à-vis command and control leadership?

Select an organization and consider its distributed intelligence. Think back to the systems thinking disciplines: personal mastery, shared vision, team learning, mental models, and systems thinking. Can you identify any simple rules within distributed intelligence that applies to human organizations? What might be some advantages of distributed intelligence vis-à-vis command and control leadership?

To prepare for this Discussion, review the resources.

Post an example of distributed intelligence in your selected organization. Then, explain how it might contribute to improving your organization or to your organization becoming a learning organization. Finally, explain any advantages of distributed intelligence for leading and managing the organization.

Can you argue that the problems and opinions expressed in the movie are important for planning, society, or the world in general?

Think of a position on a major planning or related issue you would like to analyze for the movie.
Think of 2-4 statements that support your position.
This is not a movie review. Avoid obvious or clichéd statements about what happened in the movie. Don’t talk about movie techniques like lighting and don’t mention the director, audience or cast.
In your intro paragraph, clearly state your position (identified in #1) and briefly mention your supporting statements (from #2).
Each paragraph after your intro should be dedicated to explaining ONE of your supporting statements. You may use specific examples from the movie to provide further support and evidence.
Write a concluding paragraph that essentially wraps up your position, and ideally sheds new light based on the arguments provided in the body of the paper.
As you write, consider the question, “why is this important?” Can you argue that the problems and opinions expressed in the movie are important for planning, society, or the world in general? Dig deep into your chosen arguments in order to show a thoughtful analysis of the greater issue.
Proofread very carefully for grammar, punctuation and clarity. Cite quotations and references correctly to avoid plagiarism

Identify the four (4) goals of criminal law, and discuss the manner in which these four (4) goals effectuate the purpose of protecting the public and preventing the conviction of innocent persons.

According to the text, crime has been part of the human condition since people began to live in groups. Ancient documents indicate that conduct we now call murder, theft, or robbery was identified as criminal by civilizations that existed thousands of years ago. Criminal laws regulate human conduct and tell people what they can and cannot do and, in some instances, what they must do under certain circumstances. In this assignment, you will explore different types of criminal conduct and the goals of criminal law.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

Determine whether or not a conviction is feasible when an alleged perpetrator does not have the required mens rea but has engaged in the actus rea. Provide a rationale to support your position.
Explain the distinction between diplomatic immunity and legislative immunity. Next, support or criticize the premise that diplomatic immunity is vital for Americans abroad.
Argue for or against the theory that the courts should not hold a defendant of questionable competency to the standard sentencing guidelines. Provide a rationale to support your response.
Identify the four (4) goals of criminal law, and discuss the manner in which these four (4) goals effectuate the purpose of protecting the public and preventing the conviction of innocent persons.

Do you feel that the entrapment defense is a valid one, considering the assignment scenario? Why or why not? Defend your answer.

While working an undercover detail in a neighborhood known for drug activity, you notice a vehicle stopped at the intersection waiting for the light to change. The man in the vehicle makes eye contact with you. You approach his vehicle and begin carrying on a conversation with him. You ask him if he needs anything, and he responds by asking you, “What do you have?” You ask him what he is looking for, and he tells you he is looking to score. You show him a small bag containing a white powdery substance; he asks how much, and you respond, “20 dollars.” He hands you a $20 bill, and you give him the bag and tip your hat to signal that the transaction was completed. At this time, the man drives off and is stopped a block away by a marked unit. The individual is placed under arrest for drug possession and purchasing drugs, and he is taken to jail.

The individual is charged with possession of a controlled substance. At his trial, he claimed that he was a victim of entrapment by the police. He was found guilty and sentenced to serve 5 years in jail and given credit for the 3 months he already had served in jail.

Assignment Guidelines

Address the following in 1,250–1,500 words:
Research and provide 2–3 case briefs on specific case law related to the entrapment defense as it may or may not apply in the case scenario.

Is providing the opportunity for someone to commit a crime the same as entrapment? Why or why not?
If the substance were marijuana, how much would be needed for a misdemeanor charge? A felony

Describe three types of quantitative and three types of qualitative data you want to collect about the public health program you chose, and explain why you would collect each.

Program effectiveness is difficult to prove, even when ample quantitative and qualitative data are available. Just because information is easy to count or describe does not mean that it provides insight. For example, a health promotion program that seeks to teach adults in a community to eat fewer fatty foods in order to avoid heart disease. A report about how many heart attacks occurred in the community might provide some insight on overall cardiac health, but there is no way to collect data on the number of heart attacks that did not happen as a result of the program. Moreover, the number of heart attacks alone will not be a relevant data point without being linked to fatty food consumption. However, it may be helpful to look at trends in eating habits as well as trends in heart disease and heart attacks over a 10-year period.

As a public health professional, you may be asked to determine what needs to be evaluated (what is being measured) and why, and what data will yield relevant information. For this week’s Discussion, you will practice planning data collection for effective evaluation using a scenario before collecting data for your own programs.

Select one of the following four hypothetical public health programs. Consider the methods and data points that would be the most appropriate in order to evaluate its effectiveness.

Scenarios:

1. Boost Your Kids: A U.S. program sponsored by a local health department’s Injury Prevention program. The program seeks to inform parents about the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recommendations regarding car seat usage.

2. Babies Benefit: A program offered by an international relief organization in Myanmar to train health care providers to communicate about the use of vitamin A and other supplements during every health care visit and intervention.

3. Slim Down City: A lifestyle health program aimed at urban residents in the United States, this programs sponsors weekly walks for 10 weeks to promote physical activity and prevent obesity.

4. The Pink Bus: A program provided by an alliance between a local university health care system and a cancer center, this clinic on wheels provides free and low-cost mammograms to low-income women in Canada.

Include the number of the scenario you selected (make sure to include the number of your chosen scenario in the subject line).

Complete evaluation table and post it by Day 4.

In the table:

1) Describe three types of quantitative and three types of qualitative data you want to collect about the public health program you chose, and explain why you would collect each.

2) Explain quantitative and qualitative data collection methods and explain and explain why they might be the most appropriate

Examine the importance of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and determine which amendment offers the greatest protection for defendants in a typical U.S. court case.

Explain the ways these barriers could create – or have created – a problem for you.

Most communication researchers agree that listening skills are declining in our society. Whether or not this statement is valid, most of us, if we are being completely honest, do engage in some form of “not listening.” What barriers to listening do you encounter most and why? Prepare a 1-page essay that examines your own listening habits and strategize ways in which you could improve your ability to really hear others. Please follow these steps:

First, identify two barriers you face when you try to listen.
Explain the ways these barriers could create – or have created – a problem for you.
Finally, describe some strategies that you could employ to improve your listening habits. Remember to justify your strategies and the ways in which they are linked to improved communication skills.
