Do you think that your beliefs are influenced by your own age, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity?

By Wednesday, January 27, 2016 complete the following assignment below.

Directions:

During the first week of class you conducted your first practice interview. You have since had the opportunity to learn about the formal process of interviewing and the techniques used in interviewing. With this new information in mind, it is time to develop a detailed plan for your second interview, which you may conduct face-to-face or over the telephone. Your second interview is broken down into two parts.

The first portion, preparing for the interview, is due this week in Module 3 (LASA 1).
The second part of this assignment, conducting and analyzing the interview, is due in Module 5 (LASA 2).

For this week you will be completing A. You will need to:

Locate a Volunteer:

He/she will play the role of “client” seeking help for persistent headaches and problems sleeping. The person you interview can be someone you know personally or you can contact your classmates through the Student Lounge to arrange to interview one another.
The client believes that stress may be part of the problem with his/her symptoms. Remember that this is a role play, and your volunteer should be aware that this is a practice interview and not a real psychological interview.
Prior to conducting your interview, ask your volunteer to think about stress that s/he can discuss related to the client’s problems (e.g., your client may think about stress from a job or stress related to a relationship with a significant other). However, DO NOT have your volunteer discuss this stress with you prior to the interview. You want to be able to explore this topic in depth during your interview. This scenario is intentionally left open-ended in order to allow students to maximize opportunity to utilize interview skills during the interview.
Create an Interview Guide:
In order to achieve a quality interview, you will need to first plan your interview, which is this week’s assignment (you will conduct and analyze the interview in Module 5).
The purpose of your interview is to gather in-depth information to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning for the client. You will need to gather detailed information about the symptoms being reported for both headaches and sleep problems (e.g., How often are the headaches occurring? How long do they last? What do they feel like? Has any treatment helped? Is there any pattern to the headaches?). You will also need to present a complete picture of the patient. What is the patient’s gender, age, marital status, and employment status? Be sure to go beyond these example questions, and provide an in-depth, highly detailed interview with your client.

Interview Guide Topics

The Interview Guide should directly address the below topics. Use each of these topics as headings within your paper to ensure that you directly respond to each. You should respond with at least a paragraph for each topic/heading.

Identify and summarize the purpose of your interview. How will the information you gather be used?
Explain how you will structure the interview and your reasoning behind the structuring of the interview. Include a list of topics you plan to cover.
Compose the questions you will use to obtain the information (develop a minimum of 15-20 questions). Be sure that you develop a minimum of 5 open and 5 closed ended questions.
Develop a minimum of 5 examples of paraphrasing, summaries, or

reflections techniques that could be used during your interview (must have at least one of each paraphrase, summary, and reflection). When you conduct your actual interview, these exact examples you create may not fit depending on the responses of your interviewee, but it is important to start thinking now about how you will incorporate these techniques. For this Interview Guide assignment, develop hypothetical examples of each type of technique.
Identify the opening techniques you will utilize to build rapport with the volunteer/client.
Identify types/examples of questions you want to avoid during interview.

Include an Analysis Summary:

In addition to the Interview Guide include an analysis (2-3 paragraphs) of your own preliminary thoughts about this client based on the limited information you have about this client. Have you ever known a person with chronic headaches or sleep problems? What is your “gut reaction” to hearing about a patient with chronic headaches and problems sleeping? That the person is a complainer? Is he/she a victim of terrible illness? Spend some time examining your thoughts and attitudes. It is normal for all of us to make at least preliminary assumptions about everyone we come in to contact with, and a good interviewer has awareness of his or her preliminary assumptions. Include the following in your analysis:

Identify your own beliefs (sympathetic, unsympathetic, or some mixture of both) and explain how these could affect your interview. Do you think that your beliefs are influenced by your own age, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity?
Identify steps you can take to limit the impact of your own beliefs on the interview. Be as specific as possible.

Start planning now! Remember that you will need a volunteer to role play your client in Module 5. Work on identifying that person now and scheduling your interview well in advance to avoid any possible scheduling delays. You will also need to audio or video record the interview in Module 5 so that you can later transcribe the interview. Make sure you have access to the equipment you will need.

Assignment 2: The Good Life

The final graded assignment is an 8–10-page paper about the question: what is the good life? This assignment will be completed in four parts, so you may want to use section headers to organize your paper. This paper is somewhat cumulative, so you may need to review material from previous weeks to prepare for this essay. Remember to explain the theories you reference with supporting citations to the textbook and online lectures before contrasting them. You may want to use examples to illustrate your understanding of key ideas from each theory. Your paper should be formatted in APA style. Use this APA Citation Helper as a convenient reference for properly citing resources.

  1. The Consequentialism Debate: Compare and contrast deontology and utilitarianism. Briefly discuss the differences between Bentham and Mill’s versions of utilitarianism. Discuss the political and ethical implications of utilitarianism.
  2. Explain virtue ethics and care ethics and discuss how these approaches offer an alternative to the deontological and utilitarian focus on how we should act.
  3. Explain the political and ethical dimension of existentialism and at least one other social philosophy that addresses discrimination on the basis of race/ethnicity, gender, class, and/or sexual identity. The explanation of existentialism should discuss the following ideas: authenticity, ambiguity, freedom, anxiety, and bad faith.
  4. Choose a social justice issue. A social justice issue is one that characterizes and critiques a given practice, policy/law, and/or situation as unfair, unjust, and/or unethical. For example, you might discuss a specific example of discrimination on the basis of gender/sex, race, sexual identity, ethnicity, or religious faith; economic injustice/wage inequality; taxation; or a violation of an asserted human right, such as the right to gun ownership, healthcare, education, or freedom from undue government interference. A good topic will make claims to both political/social justice and ethics. Analyze the issue and discuss how some of the theories explained in parts 1–3 might relate to the issue. You may need to do additional research on the issue in order to complete this part of the assignment.

Submit your assignment in the W5: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Week 5, Day 6.

LP10 Assignment: ABC Sporting Goods

ABC Sporting Goods

Examining the asking price of a business includes reviewing all past records and assessing the future financial outlook for the business, the economy, and the industry. You are buying the future not the past.

Critical Assumptions for ABC Sporting Goods:

ABC Sporting Goods is a small business, operating as a corporation.
ABC has been in business for 15 years.
The owner draws a salary listed under officers’ compensation.
The store has been in the same location for the past seven years and has a Triple Net Lease (i.e. pay real estate taxes, building insurance, and maintenance).
Sales decreased slightly in the past two years, but the company has tried to maintain market share by lowering their prices. This has impacted both gross and net profit.
The owner wishes to sell his business and retire. The stress of running the business for the last 15 years, for 10 or 12 hours a day has begun to impact his health.
The owner feels that the business has a good reputation with many loyal customers.
He believes the business should be valued at $750,000.

Review attached spreadsheet for Financial Information on ABC Sporting Goods: Profit & Loss

Directions:

Part I. Complete the following ratio analysis for ABC sporting Goods.

Utilize: BizStats at http://www.BizStats.com

Go to Industry Financials on the Blue Navigation Bar

Select – Corporations 249 not Sole Proprietorships 141

Select Retail Trade

Select Sporting good – Hobby book – Music

Calculate the following ratios: (Based on the last 3 year average)

Return on sales (net profit divided by gross revenues)
Return on assets
Return on net worth
Quick ratio
Current ratio
Inventory turnover (gross sales divided by inventory)
Assets to sales ratio
Total liabilities to net worth

Compare these ratios to those found in BizStats. Comment on any differences and how they impact the value of the business. Identify any significant trends in the business.

Part II. Estimate the business value using BizStats – Valuation Rule for Sporting Goods Stores at BizStats.

Under reports/valuation/valuation-rule-thumb.php

Adjust the business valuation based on your completed calculation and the ratio and trend analysis performed in step I.

Part III. Calculate the viability of purchasing the business based on the following parameters:

You can finance the business for 20% down with an interest rate of 5%, amortization over 20 years. Use the following formula:

Purchase price $100,000, down payment 20% or $20,000 which results in $80,000 being financed.

For $1,000 financed at 5%, the factor to calculate your monthly payment is .66x for every $100 borrowed. That equals $66/month or $792/year.

We now can calculate the free cash flow available to pay the loan amount. We can use the following formula:

Net Profit

+interest paid (use previous years amount from P&L)

= Cash flow

For example, if we have $10,000 for our cash flow and our payments are $528 x 12 months = $6,336; then to calculate our DSC or debt service coverage ratio, we divide the Cash flow by the annual debt service or $10,000 / $6,336 =1.58x. If we borrowed $400,000 our monthly payment is $2,640 or $31,680 and if our cash flow is $100,000 then the DSC is 3.16x. Anything greater than 1.20 is considered to be adequate. Comment on the result.

Week 2 WBS Wedding Assignment using MS Project

Now is the time to install MS Project. Do that first, then complete the following MS Project homework exercise.

The following are MAJOR tasks for a wedding. Use TWO of the tasks to build a Work Breakdown Structure in Microsoft Project.

Each major task should have 2 sub-tasks. Each sub-task should have 2 sub-sub tasks. You may add more if you wish or have a need to add more to be sure the major task is complete.

The scenarios are these: You have been asked to help your best friend plan a wedding or a family reunion in another city. You have no concern for schedule or budget at the moment, only defining the work that needs to be done for the wedding or reunion to start on time and to be successful. There will be about 100 guests.

The major tasks are these (in no particular order… you may order them in a way that is logical to you… AND you may ADD major tasks as you see the need).:

Sign a contract for a church and/or reception facility

Invite guests

Provide décor/decorations (this includes flowers)

Provide food and beverages

Provide lodging and transportation for guests
