Assignment Instructions

Instructions: Title: Week 8: Final Paper

Read chapter 13-15 fully and for your week eight assignment please:

Create 3 fictional scenarios in which an employer would have to deal with any of the following situations of employee poor behavior on the job, Substance Abuse, Sexual Harassment, Fighting, Work Family Conflicts, or Email (or Internet) abuse.

For each case, provide details of the type of employer, the history or the worker at that company, the incident which arose, why it was a clear violation of employer policy, what would be the likely result of arbitration of this issue if the employee acknowledged his wrong doing but asked to keep his job.

Explain the reasoning for your considered outcome. Remember, this is fictional. Create a believable situation, but know that you can have whatever outcome you choose! You may not work in conjunction with any other student to complete this paper.

Submission Instructions: (www.turnitin.com)

Any papers/assignments should at a minimum contain 3-5 pages of content (double spaced), include a properly formatted cover page, and a reference listing page with at least three (3) NEW references properly listed at the end of your work. Providing additional references to your assignments demonstrate your desire to conduct additional research on the topic area and can improve your research skills.

With all assignments, include properly formatted in-text citations within the body of your work for each of your listed references so the reader can ascertain what is your original thought or ideas and what portion of your work is taken from credible sources to support your work. It is really important to identify work from other sources to ensure that proper credit is provided to researchers in the field.

Submit the weekly written assignment as an MS WORD attachment in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format. A recommended font is Times New Roman (12). DO NOT include discussion board answers with your formally written assignment submission

What factors contributed to its dominance of Western Europe until the Reformation?

GUIDANCE ON PAPER

The Rise of the Papacy

In the void left by the collapse of the Roman Empire, the bishop of Rome grew even more in both power and prestige. There were both positive and negative ramifications of this reality.

Write a 5-7 page research paper discussing how and why the papacy in Rome became the center of power as it did. What factors contributed to its dominance of Western Europe until the Reformation? What were the positive and negative ramifications of this reality? Beware! While you must include a solid appraisal of the positive and negative ramifications of the growth in power and prestige of this institution, your paper must not be a sustained polemic or attack against the papacy or Roman Catholicism. Instead, the intent of this assignment is for you to demonstrate that you have an understanding of the key factors that contributed to changes in the papacy.

Special Note: This course covers the history of the church up until the Reformation. Your paper must be limited to that period. Do not discuss issues related to the papacy in the modern era (i.e., after A.D. 1500)

What are your thoughts about meeting someone where they are at as opposed to forcing someone into treatment regardless of where they are at in their stage of change? 300 words

Review the video clip with the book author Judy Lewis and John Norcross and their discussion about the stages of change (Transtheoretical Model) and how the addiction field uses this model more and more in addiction treatment. What are your thoughts about meeting someone where they are at as opposed to forcing someone into treatment regardless of where they are at in their stage of change? 300 words

Wouldn’t we all prefer our clients to be in the Action stage of change but in reality most clients come into treatment in the contemplation stage? 300 words

Let me know about your thoughts on this model and stage matching? 300 words

Are there any downsides to enacting lean manufacturing from an accounting standpoint?

Here is some HW for this week. Please take a quick view and tell me if you are fine with it.

Due date : Thursday 01/21/2016 at 8:30pm.

Discussion: Lean Accounting and Waste

Lean manufacturing processes, such as Six Sigma or Kaizen, are popular because they reduce waste, thereby increasing profits. Still, accountants face several issues when switching to a lean manufacturing system. To begin, read the article The Lowdown on Lean Accounting and describe some of the issues accountants face when switching to a lean manufacturing system. Also identify some of the ways lean manufacturing reduces scrap, waste, and spoilage and how the accounting in these companies reflects the increased vigilance in preventing scrap, waste, and spoilage. Are there any downsides to enacting lean manufacturing from an accounting standpoint? If so, describe them

Explain how Borealis Manufacturing could change its overhead application system to eliminate confusion over product costs.

Borealis Manufacturing has just completed a major change in its quality control (QC) process. Previously, products had been reviewed by QC inspectors at the end of each major process, and the company’s 10 QC inspectors were charged to the operation or job as direct labor. In an effort to improve efficiency and quality, a computerized video QC system was purchased for $250,000. The system consists of a minicomputer, fifteen video cameras, and other peripheral hardware and software. The new system uses cameras stationed by QC engineers at key points in the production process. Each time an operation changes or there is a new operation, the cameras are moved, and a new master picture is loaded into the computer by a QC engineer. The camera takes pictures of the units in process, and the computer compares them to the picture of a “good” unit. Any differences are sent to a QC engineer, who removes the bad units and discusses the flaws with the production supervisors. The new system has replaced the 10 QC inspectors with two QC engineers.

The operating costs of the new QC system, including the salaries of the QC engineers, have been included as factory overhead in calculating the company’s plant-wide manufacturing-overhead rate, which is based on direct-labor dollars. The company’s president is confused. His vice president of production has told him how efficient the new system is. Yet there is a large increase in the overhead rate. The computation of the rate before and after automation is as follows:

Before

After

Budgeted Manufacturing Overhead

1,900,000

2,100,000

Budgeted Direct Labor Cost

1,000,000

700,000

Budgeted Overhead Rate

190%

300%

“Three hundred percent,” lamented the president. “How can we compete with such a high overhead rate?”

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research manufacturing overhead.

Review the situation. Complete the following:

Define “manufacturing overhead,” and:
Cite three examples of typical costs that would be included in manufacturing overhead.
Explain why companies develop predetermined overhead rates.
Explain why the increase in the overhead rate should not have a negative financial impact on Borealis Manufacturing.
Explain how Borealis Manufacturing could change its overhead application system to eliminate confusion over product costs.
Describe how an activity-based costing system might benefit Borealis Manufacturing.

Write a 3–4-pages paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources

Based on your results for the female offspring, predict whether color blindness is a dominant or recessive trait. Explain your reasoning.

Couple 1 comes into your office. The husband has normal vision; the wife is heterozygous for the color-blindness allele.

What percentage of Couple 1’s male offspring will be color blind? What percentage of their female offspring will be color blind?

ANSWER:

Part B

Couple 2 comes into your office. The husband is color blind; the wife is homozygous for the normal vision allele.

What percentage of Couple 2’s male and female offspring will be color blind?

ANSWER:

Part C

Couple 3 comes into your office. The husband is color blind; the wife is heterozygous for the color-blindness allele.

What percentage of Couple 3’s male and female offspring will be color blind?

ANSWER:

Part D

Review the results you obtained for the female offspring of the three couples.

Based on your results for the female offspring, predict whether color blindness is a dominant or recessive trait. Explain your reasoning.

ANSWER:

Part E

Complete the Punnett squares below to determine the possible genotypes of each couple’s male and female offspring. (X represents the normal color vision allele. X represents the color-blindness allele. Y represents the Y chromosome, which does not carry the color-vision gene.

Research regarding spanking children has had mixed results, do you think spanking contributes to delinquency or helps to prevent it? Justify your response.

Answer both topics.

1. What is community policing?

How important is citizen involvement in this type of policing?
How can citizens help police?

2. Research regarding spanking children has had mixed results, do you think spanking contributes to delinquency or helps to prevent it? Justify your response.

Explain the position Brookhart argues in Chapter 2 against rubrics that merely summarize the requirements of the task, as opposed to rubrics that describe evidence of learning.

Using two different sources, respond in writing (APA format) using the prompts below to guide your written analysis.

Part 1:

Explore the Exemplars website, specifically the Resources tab for Rubrics. Review the Exemplars Math Rubric and Exemplars Reading Rubric.
Questions to discuss:
How does the Exemplars criteria for both math and reading rubrics follow a top-down or bottom-up approach? How do you know?
To what degree are performance level descriptions addressed?
Do these live up to what Brookhart proposes, that “. . .the most important aspect of the levels is that performance be described, with language that depicts what one would observe in the work rather than the quality conclusions one would draw” (p.26)?
In your opinion, what are the values placed on using the terminology for mastery (Novice, Apprentice, Practitioner, and Expert)? In other words, how effective do you believe this terminology is and why?

Part 2:

Explain the position Brookhart argues in Chapter 2 against rubrics that merely summarize the requirements of the task, as opposed to rubrics that describe evidence of learning.
Explain what Brookhart means when saying; “Rubrics should not confuse the learning outcome to be assessed with the task used to asses it” (p.15).
What is the relationship between this and what you learned about aligning formative assessments with the learning standards and objectives?

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your journal entries.
