Clearly there is a relationship between obesity and lack of exercise and poor diet. In addition, most philosophers throughout the history of the world have agreed that happiness will, at some point, require meaningful relationships with other human beings. However, what is not clear about your examples is the difference between causally dependent and causally necessary. Your definitions almost seem as though these two concepts are interchangeable. On your view, is causal dependence the same as causally necessary? Why/why not?

The public accounting profession is quite competitive and it is through the effective use of technology that one can maintain a competitive edge. For example, an auditor can usually complete an audit engagement in less time–and be surer of his/her findings–than he/she would be without using technology in his/her audit. This will permit the auditor to charge less for his/her work and to obtain more clients. Health reform is mired in the morass of multitiered payment systems and multiple modes of access, limited by the ability to seek and to pay. Increasingly, patients are interacting with multiple entities within the system, causing more and more confusion on the part of the patient. According to recent research, patients’ trust in the system, providers, and insurers continues to decline. This may result in a decline in individual health and an increase in costs for health care.

Investigate the declining trust in the health care system from an ethical and moral position. You may use the four principles plus attention to scope model of Beauchamp and Childress or any other ethical model that you choose to address this.

Task:

Download a company’s balance sheet and income statement from one of the many sites where financials are available, such as Zacks Investment Research or MarketWatch.
Choose five financial ratios, one from each of the five categories described in Chapter 3 of Brigham and Ehrhardt (i.e., liquidity, asset management, financial leverage, profitability, and market value) and look at them over a three-year period. Put your findings in a table with the years across the top (horizontal axis) and the ratios along the side (vertical axis). What do the findings tell you about the financial health of the company? How does your selected company compare to the industry?
