Topics for Research and Analysis

Promotional Goals: Identify specific objectives related to the promotion of EDUS’s acquisition of the institution. In addition, identify specific objectives related to informing potential students of new capabilities and offerings resulting from the acquisition. (Promotional goals vary. Some organizations need to create awareness of their product’s benefits compared to competitors. Other promotional goals may involve communicating new uses for an item, or informing customers or lower prices.)

Business Environment: Identify cultural and legal factors that might influence promotional decisions – both in announcing the acquisition within the region and recruiting new students to the institution. (In some countries, certain information is required in television commercials selling products aimed at children.)

Media Plan: Analyze media availability to determine cost-efficient methods of communicating with potential students within the country and within the geographic region. (While television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet may be common in industrialized countries, developing economies may require other different media. In some countries, advertising messages are broadcast through large speakers mounted on moving trucks.)

Promotional Strategy: Compare the benefits of push-and-pull promotions for acquiring new students at the institution. Devise a promotional strategy that will help EDUS expand the student body and also inform potential students of increased capability of the institution resulting from this acquisition.

Economic, Cultural, and Political-Legal Environment: Investigate the economic, cultural, and political-legal environment that might affect promotional messages and media relevant to this acquisition.

Recommended Actions: Recommend EDUS actions related to promotional goals, needed adaptations due to cultural or legal factors, and a media plan. Provide evidence to support your recommendations.

Conclusions:Draw conclusions about the material you have presented. The opinions or judgments you present should be supported by your research.

submit a PowerPoint presentation (approximately 10 slides) providing your analysis and research findings on the topics indicated. You are expected to include statistical data when possible, including tables, graphs, and other visuals that support and enhance your study. Most importantly, all written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources

Research Design Formulation- Using what you have learned in Unit II, III, and IV, design your questionnaire.

You should work on this project throughout the course. The course project is a research report you prepare based on your live research. To complete this project, you will work through the six steps of the marketing research process as described in the textbook, beginning on page nine. Use this project to demonstrate what you have learned throughout the course, and have some fun with the process.

· Step 1: Problem Definition- Select a research problem you would like to address. This can be something relevant to your career or your personal life. For example, it might relate to a business you have started, or have always wanted to start. It could relate to your current employment. You might want to research what other parents think of the quality of schools are in your area, or some other subject of concern to you.

· Step 2: Development of an approach to the problem- Use what you have learned in unit I to formulate your research objectives and strategy.

· Step 3: Research Design Formulation- Using what you have learned in Unit II, III, and IV, design your questionnaire.

· Step 4: Fieldwork or Data Collection- Administer your survey to at least 20 people. These can be friends, family, colleagues, members of a group of which you are a member, or any other group of people you choose. You can administer your research instrument in person, by email, by internet (see the bottom of page 325 of the textbook for free services available), or by any other method you choose.

· Step 5: Data Preparation and Analysis- Using what you have learned, analyze your data and relate what you have learned from your research to the marketing research problem you have identified.

· Step 6: Report Preparation and Presentation- This step involves the composition of the written report of the course project to be submitted at the end of unit VIII. Prepare a report on your marketing research that conforms to the format specified on page 730 of your textbook. (Omit the letter of transmittal, the letter of authorization, and the lists of tables, graphs, appendices and exhibits). Use what you have learned in Unit VIII to prepare an effective report.

This assignment has 3 sections. Each section must be 1-2 pages, properly cited and APA format.

The purpose of this milestone is for students to explore the various costs their firm faces and to describe their firm’s market. Using the concepts and tools developed in Modules Four and Five, students will analyze the fixed and variable costs of their firm, how those costs have changed over time, and how those changes have impacted their firm’s overall health and sustainability. In analyzing their firm’s market, students will detail the extent of their firm’s market power and their firm’s ability to influence the market. Students will also describe major trends in the market, specifically concerning new products, technologies, and new entrants. Students can further determine the future health of their firm to inform their final recommendations by examining their firm’s place within the market. Prompt:

Submit a draft of the Costs of Production (Section IV), Overall Market (Section V), and Recommendation (Section VI) of your research paper, including all critical elements listed below. You will review your firm’s financial reports and other relevant data sources to collect and analyze cost information for your firm over the past five or so years.

Using real data and the economic tools developed in Module Four, you will analyze your firm’s profitability and how costs impact its growth. Additionally, you will find data on your firm’s competitors in order to detail your firm’s place within the market currently and over the past five or so years. Lastly, you will develop a recommendation for how the firm can manage its future production. Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed:

IV. Examine the costs of production for your firm. a) Analyze the various costs a firm faces, their trends over time, and how they have impacted your firm’s profitability. b) Apply the concepts of variable and fixed costs to your firm for informing its output decisions. V. Explore the overall market for your firm. a) Discuss the market share of the firm and its top competitors by providing details on current percentages for each firm and describing the trend over time. You might consider presenting the data graphically. b) Analyze the barriers to entry in this market to illustrate the potential for new competition and its impact on your firm’s future in the market. c) Describe the market structure for this firm and analyze how this affects the firm’s ability to influence the market.

VI. Recommendation a) Develop a recommendation for how the firm can manage its future production by synthesizing the data presented. b) Suggest how the firm’s position within the market and among its competitors will allow it to take your recommended action. c) Describe how the firm can sustain its success going forward by evaluating the findings from demand trends and price elasticity. What changes could you envision in the product, the price, the promotion strategy, and the distribution?

Read the case study and write an essay that answers the CASE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS. Support your answers using at least two APA style sources. Case Study:

David Wheeler got into business in order to ease his anger about his father’s murder and in an attempt to see justice done. A computer database expert, he designed a program that would sift through crime reports in an effort to link and pinpoint criminals. The first trial of the product connected several seemingly unrelated crimes and located a suspect. In 1991, Wheeler formed InfoGlide, Inc., to sell this software program to law enforcement agencies throughout the country. While the agencies found it a valuable tool and indeed used it to investigate successfully a number of crimes, as government agencies, few could afford it. Wheeler had a product that just didn’t have a market. In 1996, after struggling for several years to attract venture capitalists, InfoGlide reexamined all possible and potential markets. It discovered that hundreds of millions of dollars a year were lost because of insurance frauds— frauds that could be linked with Wheeler’s software just as police cases were. InfoGlide immediately retargeted its product and revamped its marketing plan, and by 1998 had raised $ 5 million in venture capital. Today, the company has 38 employees and is worth $ 100 million.

In selecting a new target market, InfoGlide would have had to adjust all parts of the marketing plan as well. What changes could you envision in the product, the price, the promotion strategy, and the distribution?
Can you identify other markets that could benefit from the basic concept of Wheeler’s software? What changes might need to be made for these markets?
Researchers call this process transmigration, changing a company so it can enter a peripheral or related industry. Select a firm you know and brainstorm several transmigrations it could make
