What did you learn from developing your Portfolio Plan that will assist you in communicating and collaborating with parents/family members about assessment results?

Communicating with parents/families about the assessment process requires ongoing effort, support, and collaboration. As you have been learning, parents/families should be partners throughout the assessment process; with the professional ensuring that everyone fully understands the purposes of assessment, what is being assessed, and how this information can be utilized to support the child’s development and learning.

In Part 4 of your Child Observation Project, you developed a Portfolio Plan that specified additional assessment data that you would need in order to develop a holistic picture of the development and learning of the child whom you selected for your Child Observation Project. For Part 5 of your Project, you will develop a hypothetical Reporting Plan for sharing the results of the data gathered in the Portfolio Plan.

Note: You are not required to implement this plan.

Plan

Review the Portfolio Plan that you developed during Week 4.
Review pages 201–204 of your course text and think about the strategies presented regarding conducting effective parent conferences and how you can use this information to develop a plan for communicating the results of your Portfolio Plan to parents and family members.
Download and print the Reporting Plan.

Implement

Complete the Reporting Plan.

Reflect on the development of the Reporting Plan and what you have learned this week about effective communication and collaboration. With this in mind, complete the following:

What did you learn from developing your Portfolio Plan that will assist you in communicating and collaborating with parents/family members about assessment results?

Imagine yourself in the role of the parent/family member during a portfolio conference. What specific communication techniques do you feel would be effective and received well?

For this assignment, submit:

A summary of the Reflection citing examples from the Learning Resources in the course to substantiate your thinking and ideas

Explain what biological, environmental, and cultural factors you believe influence your sleep habits and why you believe your sleep habits exist as they do.

The assignment: (1–2 pages)

Describe your typical sleep habits over the course of the week. For example, do you sleep longer on weekends than weekdays? Do you get up and go to bed at approximately the same time every day? Do you take naps?
Explain what biological, environmental, and cultural factors you believe influence your sleep habits and why you believe your sleep habits exist as they do.
Explain whether or not you think your sleep practices are typical for your culture and why.
Briefly summarize the research findings from the article. Who were the participants, what procedure was used to study them, and what were the results?
From the article, what influences appear to have had an influence on sleep patterns or practices? What role do you believe culture plays in those differences? How does the cultural influence in this example compare (similarities and differences) to the cultural influences on sleep in your culture?

Briefly identify the type of relationship you are using as your example and describe it in terms of love styles.

The assignment (1–3 pages):

Analyze a personal relationship you have or have had (or a relationship of someone you know well). This relationship may be a romantic relationship or a friendship.

Select at least four concepts or theories from your readings that describe the relationship and how this relationship developed in more depth.
Finally, select a culture presented in one of the articles listed. Make a brief statement about how some of the concepts or theories might be different if the relationship in your example occurred in another culture or if one of the individuals in this relationship was from this other culture.

Examine the information in the safety report from the point of view of a patient.

Go to the HealthGrades Web site’s Patient Safety Excellence Award™ Recipients 2014 page and review the Patient Safety report of one of the hospitals listed there. Here’s how:

The “Patient Safety Excellence Award™ Recipients 2014” page lists hospitals that received the award. Click one of the hospitals, and you will be taken to that hospital’s Hospital Quality report.
Click the report’s Patient Safety tab and scroll down to the “Patient Safety Indicators” table.

Examine the information in the safety report from the point of view of a patient. State how patient safety ratings would influence your choice of hospital. Which, for you, are the most critical indicators? Give reasons citing indicators and results for those chosen indicators. Write your analysis in one page.

Now, think like a risk manager. List the safety indicators that pertain to the high-risk area you selected in Week 1. This will require some research. Chart audits are widely used, but the information in them varies. For example, checking for proper signatures on all forms and orders can be used universally, while daily recording of medication refrigeration temperature will only be used in some areas.

Select a minimum of three and a maximum of four indicators for measurement in your quality improvement program.

For each indicator, include the following information

How did they have an effect upon the prisoners?

You decided to pursue a career in corrections. After going through the application process for 16 months, you have been hired as a Federal Correctional Officer in your home state; it is very unusual for someone to graduate and then go directly into federal service. The warden likes to pick recent graduates and new hires to give classes to fellow guards so they will have the latest teachings from the universities. The warden, Ms. Sarah Jones, has asked you to give such a class on the below listed topics and questions; however, she first wants you to write a paper of 2–3 pages for her review so she can see what the class will entail.

Warden Jones gives you the following principles and questions:

One of the first prison systems was called the Pennsylvania System. The ideology of this system was used in the Eastern State Penitentiary in the early 1800s. This system had very definite ideas on how a prison should be organized and managed. The operation of this prison was based on the following 5 general principles (Clear, Cole, & Reisig, 2006):

Do not treat prisoners harshly, but instruct them that hard and selective forms of suffering could change their lives.
Solitary confinement will prevent further corruption.
Offenders should reflect on their transgressions and repent.
Solitary confinement is considered punishment.
Solitary confinement is economical.

Discuss the following:

Who actually formed these ideas?
Expand upon the ideas of the 5 general principles.
Why do you think they were implemented?
How did they have an effect upon the prisoners?
Has this basically changed? Why or why not?
