In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy there is a great deal of controversy about how of even if the New Jersey shore-front communities should be rebuilt. If you were head of the N.J. State Reconstruction Commission what requirements would you place upon property owners and contractors to rebuild structures? Be very specific in terms of sight locations (what should the set-back from the ocean be), specific building-code criteria to mitigate future storm damage and other environmental or site factors such as dune stabilization methods, etc. that could be incorporated to make the reconstructed communities more resistant to future storm damage. Here is what my professor asks of us. I have to relate my topic to one of the readings that we did for class. The book that I choose was Jazz by Toni Morrison. She approved it by telling me this, “It might help to redirect the topic towards why you think Toni Morrison would put a character who is “mentally ill” (is she even mentally ill?) in the book? Is there something Morrison is trying to say about Violet’s identity by making her struggle mentally?”

She also asks that the sources should be scholary sources.

Assignment
Write a clear, concise, and tightly focused research paper of 7-8 pages on one of the texts from this semester. You may write on any one of the novels or short stories, some of which we have yet to discuss. This means that you may want to skim some of those short stories to see if there is one you would be interested in. The only stipulation is that you cannot write your final paper on the same text you chose for your midterm. You can write on the same text youve written a short response on, but the final paper will require a lot of focus and in-depth expansion on one specific topic. As a part of the research process you will be using 3-4 outside sources to illuminate a particular aspect of your chosen text. For example, you might come up with a question about the role of religion and spirituality in The Veil by Marjane Satrapi. The goal is to investigate some of the major themes of the works and to integrate the sources along with interpretation to address questions that arise in your reading. The final paper should include all the elements of a strong research paper: in introductory paragraph in which you establish what the paper will be about, a thesis statement (within the introduction) that makes an argument about the significance of a certain aspect of the text, body paragraphs that support your thesis statement, evidence in the form of quotes from your main text and outside sources, a conclusion that wraps up your thoughts, proper in-text citations, and a works cited page properly formatted according to MLA guidelines.

Your response must be in standard essay form. This means the following:
1) You will begin with a clear and substantial thesis that addresses the question and
proposes a position that you will defend. This thesis will appear in the first paragraph of
the essay, and it should lay out your main point (or points) in unambiguous terms.
2) The first thesis paragraph will be followed by paragraphs consisting of arguments that
defend your point. These will require you to draw on the assigned readings from the
course and refer to specific passages that support your arguments. You may use any

As you defend your thesis, you should anticipate criticism of your points. You do not
have a lot of space to go into detailed defenses of your thesis, but you should
acknowledge multiple points of view as you defend your central arguments.
3) Your response must have a clear conclusion. This should appear as a separate, final
paragraph that summarizes your argument, restates your thesis, and draws together the
persuasive examples that you have provided.
Other than this, I will expect your responses to be written clearly. Spelling must be
accurate (including the spelling of Japanese words), and grammar must be consistent.

What can we expect as the world moves from a unpopular world to “something else”

AlKhor Company has recently reported steadily increasing income. The company reported income of QAR 200,000 in 2012, QAR 250,000 in 2013, and QAR 300,000 in 2014. A number of market analysts have recommended that investors buy their shares because they expect the steady growth in income to continue. AlKhor is approaching the end of its fiscal year in 2015, and it again appears to be a good year. However, it has not yet recorded warranty expense.

Based on prior experience, this year’s warranty expense should be around QAR 50,000, but some managers have approached the controller to suggest a larger, more conservative warranty expense should be recorded this year. Income before warranty expense is QAR 430,000. Specifically, by recording a QAR 70,000 warranty accrual this year, AlKhor could report an increase in income for this year and still be in a position to cover its warranty costs in future years.
