Assignment 1: Discussion—Planning a Presentation to Summarize Your Course Learning

In this course, you have examined the various aspects of effective leader and manager communication in organizations. Now is your opportunity to summarize and synthesize what you have learned.

Respond to the following:

Describe at least four major things you have learned in this course.
Explain why these are important for organizational effectiveness.
Explain why they are important for you personally as a leader or manager in an organization.

As a leader or manager, you will be called upon to deliver information in PowerPoint presentations. Being able to communicate concepts and information effectively is a very important skill. Using the same information that you discussed in the three points above, you should (1) identify the major points you would include in a PowerPoint presentation and (2) discuss at least five criteria that you would use to design and develop this presentation so it communicates most effectively with an audience of your choosing.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Describe forward, futures and options foreign currency markets, and discuss how they demonstrate arbitrage problems in international finance. Use a minimum of three resources to support your discussion. Summarize your findings in a three- to five- page paper, not including title and references pages. Be sure to properly cite your resources using APA style.

The Week Three Assignment:

1. Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

2. Must include a title page with the following:

Title of paper
Student’s name
Course name and number
Instructor’s name
Date submitted

3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.

4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

5. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

6. Must use at least three scholarly sources.

7. Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

8. Must include a separate references page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

• Describe your three most important accomplishments to date. You may address civic service, community service, and volunteer work, if applicable, as well as work-related and entrepreneurial endeavors.

This case is in the textbook on page 467.

This case describes a classic example of an organization which is heavily decentralized into distinct lines of business – each with its own IT group – suddenly recognizing the need for a flexible and responsive IT function, a common view of the customer and the elimination of redundant systems.

The Case Study should be five to seven well-written pages with at least 5 Professional Refererences.

Case Reading Note:

The key point in posing the following questions is to help set the scene for Patton’s next steps. The questions listed below are for you to ponder, as you are reading the case. It is not necessary for you to submit answers to the questions. They are strictly for you to see the relevance and the logic to these questions, as you read the case. Here are some questions to ponder as you reflect upon the case:

What do you think about Patton’s firing of the DIOs?
There are two parts to this discussion that need to be explored. First, was there no possible way of getting the DIOs onsite? Second, was it appropriate to fire the DIOs publically as opposed to privately?
Also, examine the DIO firings from the point of view of the four Divisional Presidents. See organization chart (see attached Appendix B) which shows Patton’s office and the DIOs in green to highlight these reporting relationships.
Do you think the DIOs have a dotted-line relationship with their Divisional presidents and a dotted line to Patton; or is it the other way around?
How do you think the Divisional Presidents will feel about Patton’s firings?
Would they feel as if Patton just fired “their” employee? It doesn’t appear that they were made aware of these impending firings by Patton.
How would they feel about that?

Discussion Questions:

Answer the five discussion questions listed below (can also be found at the end of case study in book)

List the advantages of a single customer service center for RR Communications.There are six of them.
Devise an implementation strategy that would guarantee the support of the Divisional Presidents for the shared customer service center.
Is it possible to achieve an enterprise vision with a decentralized IT function?
What business and IT problems can be caused by lack of common information and an enterprise IM strategy?
What governance mechanisms need to be put in place to ensure common customer data and a shared customer service center? What metrics might be useful?

All answers to the questions should be well-written and well-thought out. Your submission should also include two to three well-written paragraphs providing a strategic view. Your submission must support the Case Study with Research

Focus upon the idea of the company’s strategy-culture relationship and which of the four strategy-culture situations should it implement in order to help move Defender Direct forward. Conduct a SWOT analysis on the case study company’s current strategy-culture relationship.

Create a case study analysis focusing on which of the four strategy-culture situations it should implement in order to help move the company forward

Using the Internet or Strayer databases, choose two (2) different companies, and research the components of their respective working capital structures.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

1. Analyze the fundamental differences between the working capital structures and components for each chosen company, and speculate upon the main reasons why such differences exist.

Data can come in many forms, but not all data can be accurately analyzed with all statistical techniques. Therefore, it is important to understand the basic types of data before advancing further in your study of statistics.

Consider the four types of data introduced in this module: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Define each of these data types. Include industrial/organizational (I/O)-related examples of each type of data (i.e., data that might be collected by an industrial/organizational (I/O) professional in a work setting). For each data type, include an article reference and a brief description of the article you chose that incorporated that type of data into its research design.

Compare the four data types and discuss their relative strengths and weaknesses.
