The issues involved in this process of decision making are based on issues of developmental stage, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, health, family, and physical, cognitive, and psychosocial states. For your initial post, you will apply concepts from developmental psychology to create your recommended courses of action for both Roger and Geri. Carefully review the PSY605 End-of-Life Case Scenarios document and then research at least one peer-reviewed article published within the last 10 years in the Ashford University Library for each of the scenarios.

For each scenario, explain human development in the context of the situation described using research to support your responses. Create a recommended course of action for each of the two scenarios by addressing the following questions:

What is the best recommended course of action for the client at this time, and why?

What potential effects would themes such as the client’s culture, ethnicity, family, education, and gender have on the situation and recommendation(s)?

How does the client’s developmental stage factor into your recommendation?

How do the client’s physical, cognitive, and psychosocial states affect your recommendation(s)?

How might the developmental stage(s) of the client’s family member(s) affect your recommendation?

How will you present your recommendation(s) to both the patient and family member(s)?

What consideration(s) would affect your manner of presentation?

Part II Evaluate Existing Programming for People Across the Lifespan

Prior to completing this discussion, please read Chapter 21 from the Lerner, Easterbrooks, Mistry, and Weiner (2013) e-book and the review the list of programs included in the Federal Program Inventory published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2013) required for this week.

For this discussion, you will take on the role of a developmental psychologist reviewing an existing program to assess the program’s efficacy for the developmental stage(s) of the target audiences identified. Using the Federal Program Inventory as a guide, search for a human services program at work either in your local area or online. Find a program of interest to you that serves the need(s) of a specific population of individuals. You may want to refer to the Program Proposal Tracks and Topics in Developmental Psychology document for ideas on the types of programs to look for in your search.

For your initial post, create a brief summary of the program’s details that includes the information below.

Who the program serves, including age group, gender(s), race(s), cultures(s), and any special groups identified (veterans, people with disabilities, dog owners, etc.)

Explain human development in the context of current trends by evaluating the program through the lens of developmental psychology. Examine the application of developmental theory and research to policy and community agency as they are utilized in this program

How is the program appropriate for the targeted population, and why?

Are there any ways in which the program is not appropriate? If so, explain how the program or the population could be adjusted.

Are people able to easily find and get to the location? Is it accessible to the specific groups for whom the program is intended?

Is there a cost associated with the program? Is the cost appropriate, given the target population and expected outcomes? Why, or why not?

Which domains of development (physical, cognitive, and/or psychosocial) are emphasized by this program? How are these emphasized?

Could skills within other domains of development be incorporated into this program? Make recommendations as to how these might be included.

Is the program implementation (how often is it offered and what occurs each time) effective in promoting its purpose and achieving its goals? If so, how? If not, what suggestions would you make for improvement?

Analyze ethical considerations related developmental psychology within the program. Does the program appear to follow a moral and ethical code when working with people? If so, how? If not, what does the program need to address immediately

Use specific U.S. Supreme Court cases to briefly trace the development of the right to counsel for indigent defendants. In this context explain the right to self-representation by criminal defendants. and the problems that arise when this right is claimed by some defendants with mental disabilities

Flip through the channels on a television set or walk into any bookstore in the United States, and you are likely to encounter various self-help reality shows or books offering insights into how you can help yourself with mental health issues.

For this discussion, pick one self-help television show or book to evaluate (Dr. Phil, Hoarders, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Managing Your Moods, Learn How to Boost Your Self Esteem, etc.). Identify your selection and provide enough information on the topic of the show or book to create adequate context. Analyze the validity, reliability, benefits, and value of the popular resource based on your reading and study of the science of psychology across the course. Describe the presentation of the content within the book or television show in terms of the role of authority the author or host takes. (Is the presentation informational or authoritative?) Explain any theoretical foundations or shortcomings found in the material. Evaluate the ability of the book or show to apply the methods within the presented material to the target population. Describe any efforts on the part of the author(s) or host(s) to apply ethical principles and professional standards of psychology in the delivery of the content. The purpose of an article review is to provide the academic community with a description, summary, and evaluation of the completed work. For the article review, students will assume the role of an expert who is critically evaluating contemporary research in the field of psychology. Students will incorporate material from across the course, analyzing and applying theories and principles of psychology, into a cohesive and well-written article review. This learning activity will facilitate the development of research skills, critical thinking, and writing skills that are necessary to success in the field of psychology. The article for review was chosen in Week Two of the course and must be used in this review. Carefully read the selected article, and then write the Article Review.
Begin with a well-written introduction to the article that:
Analyzes the article and identifies the professional area of psychology it represents
Assesses the roles of psychology professionals within this area and describes whether or not the article clearly and correctly represents these roles.
Evaluate the theoretical perspective on which the study is based
Detail the hypotheses presented in the study or the relationship of interest
Describe the sample(s) presented in the study (how participants were obtained, selected, sample size, etc.)
Discuss where the study was conducted: university setting (lab), organization (field), etc.
Examine the ethical concerns in the study using the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct as a guide.
Summarize the results of the study. Be certain to specify the findings and whether or not the hypotheses were supported.
Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the study (usually found in the discussion section of the article).
Evaluate possible contemporary applications of the results within the article

This week, you will research and create an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed articles that were published within the last 10 years and relate to the article you selected in Week Two for your Article Review. The peer-reviewed articles you select should be researched in the Ashford University Library and represent a variety of viewpoints on the subject matter. They may support or refute the information presented in your chosen article for review. Each of the peer-reviewed articles must include a complete reference that is correctly formatted in APA style as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center and an annotation of five to six well-developed sentences in your own words that summarize the source and describe its applicability to your selected topic. Please note that no sections from the abstracts of the articles should be included in your annotation.

In your annotation for each peer-reviewed article, analyze psychology as a science as it is presented in the article and explain how it relates to this particular topic. Prior to completing this assignment, review the guidelines for the Program Proposal assignment in Week Six of this course and review the Program Proposal Track and Topics in Developmental Psychology document. You may also review the Federal Program Inventory for ideas.

For this assignment, you will identify and describe the foundational components for your proposal based on the information requested in the “Beginning the Program Proposal Process” section of the Program Proposal assignment.

Choose an area of interest. This area of interest will include a general track and define a specific issue within the track that is of interest to you and presents a contemporary problem to be solved. See the Program Proposal Tracks and Topics in Developmental Psychology document to view the tracks (Community, Clinical/Counseling, and Education) and suggested issues within each track for the proposal. Once the track and issue have been chosen, write a one-paragraph summary of the specific track and issue to be addressed in the proposal.

Identify the target population. Regardless of the track and issue chosen, a target population must be identified for the proposal. Identify the target population associated with the chosen issue. Within the target population, choose the developmental stage that will act as the focus (sample) for the proposal. Many programs may directly and/or indirectly influence people in different stages; however, it is important to select the stage that is most applicable to the specific program being proposed. For example, in a program for adults who are caring for their elderly parents, the focus is on the adults (likely in middle adulthood) so a middle adulthood focus would be most appropriate for that program. Provide a one-paragraph rationale for the target population identified.

Identify the geographic location where the program will be deployed. Programming will be directly influenced by the location in which it will take place. For example, a child safety program in a rural farming community will likely have different objectives and needs than a child safety program in a large metropolitan city. Once the geographic location has been chosen, provide a one-paragraph rationale for that location.

Create a brief annotated bibliography. Research a minimum of five peer-reviewed articles on the chosen issue in the Ashford University Library and include citations for all articles in APA format as outline in the Ashford Writing Center. All sources utilized must have been published within the last 10 years. Provide a brief annotation for each cited article to address the relevance of the articles to your topic and how they will be used the proposal. Within the annotation evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives and research in the field of developmental psychology presented within the article and analyze any ethical considerations presented in the article that would impact the deployment of your program.
