Is this a good bill or a bad bill? Is this bill effective?

Resource: Criminology in the 21st Century: Classical School of Thought in Criminology.

Imagine the following scenario:

You are the criminologist advisor to a member of the state legislature. The legislature will soon vote on a bill that, if it passes, would double the maximum prison term for anyone convicted of armed robbery. Your boss knows the bill is popular, but wonders if it will do much good.

Consider policy making as it relates to criminal offenses. What recommendations would you make? What are the reasons for your recommendations? Is this a good bill or a bad bill? Is this bill effective?

Prepare a 750- to 1,050-word proposal addressing the following:

Objectives of the bill
Goals of the bill
Possible solutions for the bill
Justification for why the bill should be approved or not

Analyze strategies for exerting the internal leadership needed to drive the implementation of strategic initiatives and improve operating excellence.

After you have fleshed out your business plan you will have the information you will need for a slide presentation (e.g., PowerPoint). This 12-slide presentation conveys the most important aspects of your business in a short time. More sophisticated investors, such as angel investors and venture capitalists, will typically not look at your written business plan until they have seen your slide presentation.

Presentation (MS PowerPoint or equivalent)

Create a 12-slide presentation. Follow the outline on pp. 343–346 for the critical slides of your presentation and their placement.
Hints: Include the highlights of your elevator pitch, which shows that you understand your business. The elevator pitch is a concise description of your company—its product, market, competitive advantages, and so on. Whether pitching your business to an investor or describing it to a potential connection at a networking event, you need to be able explain your business succinctly to someone in the amount of time it would take to ride up a few floors in an elevator. Use the worksheet in the text (p. 362 | Your “Elevator Pitch”) to develop your elevator pitch.
Hints: You must limit your presentation to twelve (12) slides. You do not want to overwhelm your audience with too many slides or bore them with information they already know.
Cite three (3) resources you have used to complete the exercise.
Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length

Analyse the possible impact of the above two contrasting labour market scenarios on the various specific components of HRM policy.

ELECT ONE MULTINATIONAL COMPANY CASE (with operations in its home country and at least one other foreign host country) with which you are familiar – one that you can access relevant HRM information about (for example, one you have worked for, had an internship in, an organisation familiar to family/friends, or that you have been able to find detailed information about in journal articles, books, newspapers, internet). Or you can make up a fictitious multinational company case!

Building on our labour market planning/supply & demand exercise in session 3, imagine you are a senior human resources (HR manager) responsible for HRM strategy in a multinational company in the following two contrasting scenarios:

a. In an economic boom (with strong economic growth), as a HR manager what HR strategy and practices would you pursue if demand for workers in your company greatly exceeded supply of workers?
b. Conversely, in an economic crisis (e.g. deep recession like in 2008), as a HR manager what HR strategy and practices would you pursue if supply of workers in your company greatly exceeded demand for workers?

In completing the assignment, you are expected to address the following issues:

1. Strategy: firstly, briefly summarize the possible impact of the above two contrasting labour market/economic scenarios on the multinational organisation’s overall business strategy and then its overall HR strategy.

2. HRM policies and practices: secondly, analyse the possible impact of the above two contrasting labour market scenarios on the various specific components of HRM policy and practice in the multinational organization under the four main HR functions covered in the module: resourcing the organization, human resource development (HRD), employment relations, managing performance and reward. The list of HR policies and practices that might be assessed under these four areas include: talent management, recruitment and selection, organizational culture, training and development, employee voice and participation rights, pay and reward, performance management and appraisal (these might be referred to by other labels).

3. Another theme to be discussed in your assignment is how different organizational, sector/industry, country, and international contextual circumstances might influence the impact of the above two labour market scenarios on HRM policies and practice in your multinational case company.

4. In conclusion, can you briefly recommend any possible improvements in strategic HR management in your chosen multinational case to better prepare for changes in labour market supply and demand relating to different economic cycles of boom

Use the models laid out by Trompenaars and Hofstede to help structure your discussion.

Culture in International Management

Understanding culture in the international business environment can be complex and sometimes crucial to the success of a business venture. Even multinational companies with a strong ethos of standardisation need to take into account national cultural differences.

Compare and contrast the culture within your own business environment with that of an organisation from a different country. Use the models laid out by Trompenaars and Hofstede to help structure your discussion.
