Hormone Replacement Therapy

In recent years, hormone replacement therapy has become a controversial issue. When prescribing therapies, advanced practice nurses must weigh the strengths and limitations of the prescribed supplemental hormones. If advanced practice nurses determine that the limitations outweigh the strengths, then they might suggest alternative treatment options such as herbs or other natural remedies, changes in diet, and increase in exercise.

Consider the following scenario:

As an advanced practice nurse at a community health clinic, you often treat female (and sometimes male patients) with hormone deficiencies. One of your patients requests that you prescribe supplemental hormones. This poses the questions: How will you determine what kind of treatment to suggest? What patient factors should you consider? Are supplemental hormones the best option for the patient, or would they benefit from alternative treatments?

To prepare:

Review Chapter 56 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text, as well as the Holloway and Makinen and Huhtaniemi articles in the Learning Resources.
Review the provided scenario and reflect on whether or not you would support hormone replacement therapy.
Locate and review additional articles about research on hormone replacement therapy for women and/or men. Consider the strengths and limitations of hormone replacement therapy.
Based on your research of the strengths and limitations, again reflect on whether or not you would support hormone replacement therapy.
Consider whether you would prescribe supplemental hormones or recommend alternative treatments to patients with hormone deficiencies.

Post on or before Day 3 a description of the strengths and limitations of hormone replacement therapy. Based on these strengths and limitations, explain why you would or why you would not support hormone replacement therapy. Explain whether you would prescribe supplemental hormones or recommend alternative treatments to patients with hormone deficiencies and why.

Explain how these biases affected your decision making.

Assignment: Why People Are Not Always Rational

Note: Next week, you will be will be studying the dynamics of group decision making. To prepare for the Week 8 assignments, you will complete this week’s assignment in groups. Your Instructor will assign you to one of six groups to complete this Assignment and the Discussion that follows. Remember, students taking this course come from different cultures around the world. It is important to be respectful of each other, regardless of how different your ways of thinking or interacting might be.

Psychological research shows the way people make decisions is often not rational. To prepare for this Assignment, read about the Allais Paradox and the Ellsberg Paradox in the Hastie and Dawes text. Also read Daniel Kahneman’s Nobel Prize lecture, “Maps of Bounded Rationality: A Perspective on Intuitive Judgment and Choice.”

For this Assignment, your Instructor will assign the following:

Each student to one of six groups
To each group, one of the following chapters from the Hastie and Dawes text: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9
To each group, one of the videos listed under Media in this week’s resources.

Chapters 4 through 9 of the Hastie and Dawes text present a variety of ways in which people may succumb to inherent decision-making biases. For this Assignment, each student will read one of these chapters and work collaboratively with his or her group to write a 3- to 5-page group paper that explains the content of the assigned chapter and its connection to the decision problems from Week 1. In your Discussion this week, you will post your paper for your colleagues to read and discuss.

With your group, identify decision problems from the Week 1 Assignment that fall within the purview of the challenges or biases associated with rational decision making as discussed in your group’s assigned chapter and video.

With your group, collaboratively write a 3- to 5-page paper that explains your experiences with the Week 1 decision problems and how inherent decision-making biases may have influenced rational thought. In this paper, analyze whether you were affected by these biases as identified in your group resources. Explain how these biases affected your decision making.

Addiction to illegal substances and alcohol is a coping mechanism that many children use to deal with the intense and painful reality of child abuse/neglect. The cycles of addiction can be generational and very difficult to overcome.

Create and describe an addiction scenario involving a minor and offer suggestions for which services you believe would be the most effective in that scenario. Provide details for the scenario such as age of client, signs of abuse, and the type of abuse. Be sure to address the following questions:

What are some of the signs and symptoms for the client in your scenario?
To what substances is the client addicted?
What services are generally offered to help children break addiction and how do those services differ from services offered to adult addicts

***The assignment has to be done like it states above***

The right of a parent to decide how to raise their children is considered a fundamental right, which means that government interference with that right must be for a compelling reason such as child abuse or neglect. In the case of Native American children, children were often removed from their tribal homes and placed in child welfare systems throughout the nation that were not culturally similar. In response to this, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) was passed in 1978.

As the CPS investigator you have learned that Anne may possibly have Native American ancestry. This is your first case regarding a child from a Native American ancestry, so you will need to research the provisions of ICWA to ensure you are well informed. You are asked by your supervisor to write a 2-3 page paper outlining your knowledge of the following:

the history of ICWA
ICWA provisions
ICWA requirements

Answer the following questions:

As an investigator of alleged abuse/neglect, what does ICWA require you to do first?
How would Anne’s lineage be determined?
Can Anne be removed from her home and placed in foster care if she is of Native American descent?

Summarize how you expect to use what you have learned in this class throughout the rest of your education.

What I learned in this online Cost Accounting Class. How it will be useful in my carreer as CPA., etc.

For the final discussion, take a moment to think back to where you were when you began this class ( I have a basic accounting background, I studied General Accounting) and where you are now . In your initial post, address the following:

· Explain how you have grown as a student and professional over the course of this class.

· Summarize how you expect to use what you have learned in this class throughout the rest of your education. ( I’m planning to continuing in pursuing my CPA )

· Explain how you will use the knowledge and skills you gained during this course in your chosen or anticipated profession.

· As you reflect on the course content, describe what you found to be the most interesting, surprising, or useful topic covered

Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.

The Project Paper focuses on a suggested topic related to art, architecture, history, music, or literature. The project will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind and your abilities to be the creative, innovative, and critical thinker you already are!

Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that responds to each of the items described in the topic.

For the topic you choose:

Support your ideas with specific, illustrative examples. If there are questions or points associated with your chosen topic, be sure to answer all of the listed questions and address all of the items in that topic. If your topic asks you to do several things related to the topic, be sure to do each of the things listed.
While some of the topics tend to lend themselves toward particular writing genres, you are not restricted to the specific format suggested for the individual topic. For example, you may do an “interview,” a “proposal,” a “letter,” a “short story,” a “blog,” an “essay,” an “article,” or any other written genre for almost any of the topics. The project is intended to be fun as well as informative, so feel free to be creative with the delivery of your information.
Use at least three (3) good quality academic sources, with one (1) source being the class text. Note: Wikipedia and other similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources. You are highly encouraged to use the Resource Center tab at the top of your Blackboard page.

Note: Your instructor may require you to submit your topic choice for approval before the end of Week 2.

Topic choices (pick 1):

Office Art Memo. Memorandum. Your boss, who knows you have been taking a humanities class since he pays for your tuition reimbursement, has tasked you with managing the art budget for your company, expecting you to choose various pieces of art for the new corporate offices. (Note: Replicas of the works are acceptable since they are more cost-efficient and you are working on a budget.) Include the following:

Identify three (3) examples of 19th century Impressionist painting or sculpture and three (3) Post-Impressionist works. Explain how the six (6) pieces of art fall into these two (2) styles.
In a memo, describe the appearance of your six (6) choices to your CEO so he or she will know what the art looks like and where it would be placed in the corporate offices.
Explain why each piece is considered to be historically significant.
Explain how each piece “fits” your company’s overall (or desired) corporate image. Keep in mind that a piece of art is supposed to “say” something about the owner, so describe what would these pieces of art say about your company.

New Composition. Speech. Your uncle’s birthday is in two (2) months, and everyone knows that he loves almost all kinds of music. As a birthday gift for him, you want to have a special piece of music composed in his honor which will be played at a family birthday celebration. Write a speech that you will make to the composer’s agent. Include the following:

Narrow your choices down to three (3) composers you’ve studied in this course. Choose one (1) of the composers and explain why you want him to write the “birthday present” music.
Explain why the other two (2) composers were ultimately not selected.
Specifically identify the musical elements in the composer’s style that you would like to be included in the new music written for your uncle.
Describe what sort of emotion is generated by listening to the works of your selected composer; in other words, what do you want your uncle to “feel” as he hears the music, and why is this composer so perfect for this composition?

Harlem Renaissance Poets. Essay & Poem. Choose two (2) poems by different authors from the Harlem Renaissance. Write an essay that:

Describes each author’s role and importance within the Harlem Renaissance.
Identify the elements in each of their poems in which you see evidence of the “double-consciousness” being expressed by each author.
Fully describe at least two (2) primary themes you see in the poetry written during this time period, referring to specific lines in each of the poems.
Write your own poem that expresses these identified themes of the Harlem Renaissance.

Women’s Roles Then & Now. Script. Script a conversation between two (2) notable women from the 18th and / or 19th century on the roles women should play in society. Within the dialogue, include:

Biographical information for each woman.
The historical status for women in general during the time period in which each woman lived.
What opinions each of the women might have on the role the women should play in society during their lifetimes.
What each of the women might think about women’s current roles.

Other topic choice recommended and approved by the professor and supported by the grading rubric.

The Project Paper will be graded on:

The level to which the instructions were followed.
The extent to which all four (4) parts in the topic were addressed.
The adequacy of information, examples, and details which support the general claim or main idea.
The clarity and relevance of the explanations and descriptions.
Adherence to standard rules of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
The inclusion of three (3) required references (two [2] additional sources besides your textbook) documented using APA style.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA Style format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions specific to the selected topic. (Note:Students can find APA style materials located in the Additional Resources section of their Student Center within their course shell for reference.)
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

Explain how key social, cultural, and artistic contributions contribute to historical changes.
Explain the importance of situating a society’s cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.
Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.
Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.
Identify major historical developments in world cultures from the Renaissance to the contemporary period.
Write clearly and concisely about world cultures using proper writing mechanics

Explain how the fundamental right you selected is rooted in the Due Process Clause in the Constitution.

Application: Fundamental Rights

In the United States, there are exceptional rights called fundamental rights under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has held through due process and equal protection that to restrict those fundamental rights, the government must have a “compelling governmental interest.” Some fundamental rights, like the right to free speech, are listed in the Bill of Rights, but others are not expressly written in the Constitution. Rather, they have been interpreted through constitutional construction, which you learned about in Week 1. Those rights include the right to privacy, marriage, procreation, and interstate travel. A law restricting these rights must be narrowly tailored and will be evaluated by the Supreme Court with strict scrutiny. It is an issue of substantive due process if the law denies a fundamental right without adequate justification.

To prepare for this assignment:

Review Chapter 1, 1.15 and 1.16, of your course text, Constitutional Law, and the article, “Due Process.” Reflect on the purpose of the Due Process Clause.

Review the article, “Who is ‘Due’ Process?” to learn about how administrators of human services can protect the right for individuals to obtain services through due process.

Select a fundamental right. Then, think about how the fundamental right you selected is rooted in the Due Process Clause in the Constitution.

Due by Sunday February 07, 2016 a (1-2 page paper)

Identify and explain the fundamental right you selected.

Explain how the fundamental right you selected is rooted in the Due Process Clause in the Constitution. Be specific and reference this week’s Learning Resources.

Support your work with specific citations from the Learning Resources. You are allowed to draw from additional sources to support your argument, but you must cite using APA standards. All quoted material must be identified, cited, and referenced per APA standards.
