Do you consider the European Union (the EU) to be a supranational organization?

answer each question with a minimum of 100 words.

Q1: Do you consider the European Union (the EU) to be a supranational organization?

Q2: In what sense do you feel that the EU has compelled member nations to voluntarily join in an economic, political, and/or cultural association whereby the benefits are such that EU states are willing to give up a measure of sovereignty for these group goals?

PART II – ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Directions: Find 5 articles about the European Union.  Research and build an annotated bibliography on the European Union (the EU).

Locate articles that may comment on:

  • The history, structure, and function of the EU (recall that the EU was formerly known as the European Economic Community)
  • The future goals and directions of the EU
  • Individual countries that are part of the EU and their relationship with other nations within the EU
  • The future of some particular nations in the EU which have introduced economic instability into the EU, such as Greece and Spain
  • Countries that are seeking to be a part of the EU
  • Other aspects of the EU

Provide an APA citation for each article.  Your annotation should include the following:

  • What is the purpose of the article?
  • How did you decide that the article you chose was credible and used the appropriate strategy to study the EU?
  • What were the main results of the article?
  • How does the article provide a unique and effective contribution to understanding the EU?

Each annotation for an article should be at least 150 words.

Use technology to determine the percentage of people, to the nearest percent, can we anticipate are undernourished in a country where 60% of the people are literate?

Use the data above to solve these exercises:

Use technology to determine the correlation coefficient, rounded to two decimal places, between percentage of people in a country who are literate and the percentage who are undernourished.
Use technology to find the equation of the regression line for the percentage who are literate and the percentage who are undernourished. Round “m” and “b” to two decimal places.
Use technology to determine the percentage of people, to the nearest percent, can we anticipate are undernourished in a country where 60% of the people are literate?

What are the Net Present Value and/or project’s Payback Period?

Final Project Details

Now that we have covered some of the basic concepts in managerial accounting, we might want talk a little about the final project so you can keep the objectives of the project in mind as you work through the next few chapters. For your final project due in Week 8, you will create a new/enhanced program proposal.

You may complete this as an individual or team exercise. You may complete any of the following formats:

  • Submit a new program proposal (Possibly one that you and/or your firm is working on now or recently completed)
  • Submit a proposal for capital equipment or a new position
  • Submit a business proposal for a new business ( A new “start-up” venture that you or a group of people are contemplating)

Prepare a proposal using either the format provided in class or a format you would be required to use in your present company. The proposal can focus on cost savings or revenue-generating programs. I strongly suggest that you use a program that you have or plan to propose to the organization for which you work. It is much easier to work with actual figures than to make up a fictitious company and researching what the possible figures might be. The proposal should include (but is not limited to) the following information:

  • Briefly describe the program and its relationship to the organizational mission.
  • How will you price your product, what is the mark up.
  • Discuss the return on investment.
  • What are the Net Present Value and/or project’s Payback Period?
  • If capital equipment is involved, is there a lease versus buy decision.
  • Do you require new personnel, if so complete the appropriate form and submit a job description?
  • How will you fund this new program?
  • Create a 1 year budget for the program.
  • If this is a new business, what is the legal structure and what method of accounting will you use and why.

This document should be no more than 10 pages. The cover sheet should include the type of proposal you are submitting, the name of your team members (if applicable) and their role in the project. Second page should be an executive summary giving a brief description of the project and any information you find pertinent (maximum 250 words).

Format is important, and you are expected to present the information in an attractive, professional manner. If your use references, please make sure they are cited either in the footnotes or at the end of the paper. A title page and a table of contents lends to the organization of the paper. The document must be double-spaced, and professionally prepared (i.e., using basic APA style and/or www.isiresearchsoft.com for bibliographic formatting resources) spell-checked, clearly organized, and clearly summarized, with accurate citations for all referenced work.

You may only use Microsoft Word or Excel to develop your paper; remember that you must show your calculations. Papers submitted in .pdf format are also acceptable.

If you include proprietary information from your organization, please mark your paper confidential to ensure that its contents will not be used as an example in future classes.

Lastly, please make sure that the project employs some form of financial statements, capital expenditure worksheets, and/or any other pertinent accounting support schedules that we will employ throughout this course. Every project that is submitted must have some numerical support and accounting schedules, not just a written analysis. We need to practice integrating both numbers in words in our analyses throughout the MBA program at BU.

Explain how you, personally, will deal differently with these issues in the workplace than you would have before this class.

The final project includes both a 10 – 12 page paper (not including title page or references section) and a PowerPoint presentation with 8 slides of content. Utilizing independent research and course materials, compose a 10 – 12 page paper. The first section (5-6 pages) is to be a compare/contrast essay where you illustrate the similarities and differences in organizational components, actions, and attributes promoting a healthy culture and organizational components, actions, and attributes not promoting a healthy culture. What role does leadership have in transforming workplace culture to promote a healthy organization?

Even though leadership has brought a heightened awareness of how to deal with mental health issues in the workplace and set the stage for a healthy organizational culture, disorders and problems will still occur. For the second section of your paper (5-6 pages), provide a reflective portion. This section should contain a synopsis of five of the following issues or disorders. Include ethical and legal considerations leaders may need to consider during transformation of organizational culture.

Job Stress and Health
Work/Family Conflict
Depression
Bipolar Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
Panic Disorder
PTSD
Schizophrenia
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder
Eating Disorder
Traumatic Brain Injury
Insomnia
Substance Abuse
Social Dysfunction
Violence
Passive-aggressive Behavior

For each issue/disorder you selected, indicate what behaviors call attention to the potential disorder or issue, as well as possible interventions and treatments for each disorder/issue. Explain how you, personally, will deal differently with these issues in the workplace than you would have before this class. At least one scholarly source for each disorder or issue should be used to support your ideas.

Next, imagine that you are presenting the results of your paper to a class of college students who are learning about psychopathology in the workplace. Create an 8-slide PowerPoint presentation (not including title slide or references slide) that highlights the key concepts of your paper. Incorporate at least 100 words of speaker notes for each content slide.

Why is ambiguity an important component in the storytelling process in each of these four individual films and what are some of the specific ways in which we are alerted to the possibility that what we seem to be seeing and/or hearing may not be quite the whole truth?

We began our tour through American Cinema with Citizen Kane”1941-Orson Welles” a fragmented biography composed of multiple views of the title character presented through the highly subjective recollections of assorted individuals who sometimes seem to even be contradicting one another. These sorts of potentially unreliable narrators and witnesses — characters who may or may not be telling the truth, even to themselves — are featured in many of the films we’ve seen, and are often key elements in narratives in which a certain degree of ambiguity becomes essential to the themes and mood and ideas being expressed. *****

How does this process manifest itself in Sunset Blvd”1950-Billy wilder”, Taxi Driver”1976-martin scorese”, Do the Right Thing”1989-Spike lee” and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”2004-Michel Gondry”

Why is ambiguity an important component in the storytelling process in each of these four individual films and what are some of the specific ways in which we are alerted to the possibility that what we seem to be seeing and/or hearing may not be quite the whole truth? Please remember to incorporate an analysis of how the style of each of these films enhances the director’s vision. Also are these films just to sell tickets or are they an artwork? Talk about the characters and how do we veiw them.

Final papers must be a minimum of ten pages (roughly 3000 words), although you are free to write more.

What complications will be faced regarding working and communicating with an ethnically diverse population? Explain.

As a group, come to a consensus and select a community within the United States that one of the group members had addressed in his or her risk profile assignment. Using the community that you have selected, pick 1 of the hazards that was identified in the community’s risk profile, and write a hazard-specific emergency response plan that includes the following components.

Assignment Guidelines

As a group, address the following in 1,500–1,750 words:
Who will comprise your planning committee? Explain.
Identify public and private sector partner agencies and elected officials (if any) that should serve on the planning committee.
What are the component parts of the plan (be specific and detailed)? Explain.
What participating agencies may be more or less involved in which parts of the plan development? Explain.
Are there subject matter experts (SMEs) or other entities that should be involved in any one specific area of the plan development? Explain.
Based upon the emergency management concept of incident management that includes the phases of preparedness/mitigation, response, and recovery, identify the actions that will need to be taken in each phase as they relate to the hazard you have selected.
Identify the major challenges that the community and responders will encounter when responding to the hazard.
What solutions exist (e.g., mutual aid, contract services) to overcome those challenges? Explain in detail.
What should be the short- and long-term recovery goals of the community following this event’s occurrence?
Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

You must decide as a group how you will divide up responsibilities for drafting this plan.

Demonstrate your knowledge of the total rewards model by describing the current total rewards philosophy of the organization and its three categories of offerings.

n this final assignment, you will design a total rewards program based on an existing organization that you have studied earlier in the course or, with the instructor’s permission, a different organization.

Before creating the final projected total rewards program, you will have conducted a research project in which you have obtained thorough and detailed information about organizational goals, objectives, and challenges. In addition, you will have obtained information about the current monetary and non-monetary rewards and work environment of the organization and the challenges or changes (such as expansions, downsizing, changes of services or products) the organization anticipates. You will have also designed metrics to evaluate the total rewards program.

In the final paper, you will provide the research findings in a report of at least 10 pages plus a title page, reference page, and appendix documents including implementation timeline and metrics. Provide at least eight sources (in APA format) in a reference list and respective in-text citations. Please be sure to use topic headings and include the following:

1. Provide a Title Page in Academic Format

2. Give the Introduction and Purpose for the Paper

3. Summarize and describe the organization, including its capabilities, key goals, objectives, challenges, values, and core competencies required for success.

4. Demonstrate your knowledge of the total rewards model by describing the current total rewards philosophy of the organization and its three categories of offerings.

5. Identify and describe the segmentation of the workforce (drawing up our study of how to differentiate employee groups depending on their drivers, such as flexible schedules, growth potential, desire for demonstrating individual expertise or team success, low obligation and easy income, or high obligation and high income).

6. Describe further the current requisite capabilities of the organization and the competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) of the employees and, in your opinion, an analysis of whether the current needs will change given the issues faced by the organization.

7. Recommend changes to the total rewards program, along with specific plans, including plans for communicating the changes and metrics that should be used by the organization to evaluate the success of the new program.

8. Present the justification for your recommendations.

9. Assess and discuss the risks of not implementing the program and the opportunities the program will give the organization.

10. Provide your metrics for evaluating the total rewards program and share why you chose the ones you did.

11. Present a general explanation for the timeline for implementation in the paper AND as an appendix to the paper (submitted as a separate assignment). You may refer to the implementation task list and timeline in the paper and share that it is in the appendix but submitted as a separate assignment.

12. Describe your conclusions and a summary of knowledge gained about total rewards through the activity.

13. Reference Page (with at least eight scholarly sources)
