example of paper,

All of the fallacies described in Mr. Shapiros article can be found in politics. (Shapiro, 2007). For example, Al Gore is greedy, therefore his beliefs on climate change are not true. In addition, Fox News is watched more than MSNBC, so the reports on Fox are more reliable. (Steelman, 2014).

One type of fallacy not mentioned in Mr. Shapiros article is the appeal to fear. When an argument is presented in an effort to invoke fear, it is easy to get people to believe that their fear is justified. Opponents of President Obama have made arguments that his goal is to remove guns from Americans hands. In a recent article posted on The Truth About Guns website, Nick Leghorn writes that President Obama has announced plans to ban guns for the elderly and disabled. (Leghorn, 2015). This type of fallacy is detrimental to Americans because it creates severe distrust in the government we are supposed to be able to rely on.

Submission Instructions: (www.turnitin.com)

Any papers/assignments should at a minimum contain 2-3 pages of content (double spaced), include a properly formatted cover page, and a reference listing page with at least three (3) NEW references properly listed at the end of your work. Providing additional references to your assignments demonstrate your desire to conduct additional research on the topic area and can improve your research skills.

With all assignments, include properly formatted in-text citations within the body of your work for each of your listed references so the reader can ascertain what is your original thought or ideas and what portion of your work is taken from credible sources to support your work. It is really important to identify work from other sources to ensure that proper credit is provided to researchers in the field.

Submit the weekly written assignment as an MS WORD attachment in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format. A recommended font is Times New Roman (12). DO NOT include discussion board answers with your formally written assignment submission.

HR Headline: Pay for Performance in Public Schools Remains Controversial

“Pay for Performance” has made inroads in business, but has remained a hard sell in public school systems. There are some successful examples where teacher pay has been linked to student test scores. In Minnesota some districts have stopped giving automatic raises for seniority and base 60% of all pay increases on performance. In Denver, unions and school districts designed an incentive program where teachers receive bonuses for student achievement and for earning national teaching certificates. However, some plans have not worked. For example, Cincinnati teachers voted against a merit pay proposal and Philadelphia teachers gave their bonus checks to charity rather than cashing them. It appears that having teachers involved in planning the incentive system is one key factor to success. The same can be said for all incentive plans – if employees don’t buy into them, they will not work.

Questions to Research:

1. How could an organization measure the effectiveness of their pay-for-performance plans?

2. From an employee’s perspective, what are the disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?

3. From an employer’s perspective, what are the disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment

Summarize how your company’s stock performed relative to the S&P 500 over the entire period, and how your company performed in the recession and recovery.

Report 8 (this company is VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC)

This report summarizes your findings from the data presented in Report 7, and examines in depth any salient features of that data.

Audience: Think of this as a report for potential investors from a disinterested advisor. You are not trying to sell the company, rather you are giving an objective overview in the following order:

Introduce your company and give a little background about its history and performance.

Summarize how your company’s stock performed relative to the S&P 500 over the entire period, and how your company performed in the recession and recovery. Be sure to refer to the relevant graphs and/or tables explicitly. Discuss any other salient features of your company revealed in the data. You should refer to each graph and table at least once. For example, did your company stop paying dividends? If so, try to find out why. Does your company have a usually high or low Tobin’s Q value? If so, try to investigate what might be behind this measure. Identify any events or developments that help explain sharp decreases or increases in your company’s stock over the period, as identified in your first graph. You may also look at daily stock data from wrdrs site, if there was a particular news event that impacted your company’s stock. You may add a graph depicting daily stock movements to enhance your explanation.

Briefly conclude where you think this company is headed. If you dare, predict the stock return in the coming years.

We will discuss the many possible resources for this report in class. General Guidelines: Maximum length 2 pages, double spaced, with normal 12 point font, not including outside sources which should be cited in standard format. When you refer to or quote a specific reference, give enough detail to find the source in your citations. Don’t use footnotes, since this is only a short paper. For example, you may write: According to the Wall Street Journal (Sept. 24, 2011), Company X fired their chief executive office, Jane Doe, causing a sharp increase in stock price we can see in Figure 1 between September and October 2011.

Then list the Wall Street Journal article by name, date, and author in a list of your sources at the end
