Assignment 2: Interview Analysis

While you can read a great deal about various disorders, being able to identify such disorders when they are present is challenging. To assist you with visualizing the disorders you are studying, you will have the opportunity to view interviews with clients who have been diagnosed with various disorders.

Choose from the Select a Disorder menu, and then click View Disorder.

When the new window opens, select the Diagnostic, Case History, Interview, and Treatment tabs to watch the respective videos. As you watch the interviews, note the identifiable diagnostic criteria.

For this week you will be reviewing the following disorders:

Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Borderline personality disorder

For each disorder:

First review the diagnosis and case history of the disorder.
Go to the interview section and choose at least 3 themes, asking at least one question for each.
Make sure to keep notes on the questions and the answers that were given.
Prepare a case summary covering the following points.
Describe the diagnostic criteria for each disorder.
List the interview questions that you used. Explain why you chose those questions. Summarize the responses given to your questions.
Describe the treatments for each disorder.

Conflict resolution is a necessary skill for any manager or leader. In this assignment, you will examine the difference between conflict and competition. You will also explore ways of determining when conflict resolution is necessary and explain ways to resolve conflict.

Research the role of conflict and competition using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Select two resources for use in this assignment. Reflect on your experiences with conflict. If you have no business related experiences with conflict, apply your personal experiences to a common workplace situation.

Assignment 1: Discussion Assignment

The discussion assignment provides a forum to discuss the relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered. For this assignment, there are two parts. Make sure to answer all questions for Part 1 and Part 2 by Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Provide a detailed response to the topic questions in the Discussion Area. For this assignment, post your responses directly in the Discussion Area. Do not use attached documents.

To support your work, make sure to utilize your course and text readings. When asked, also utilize outside sources. As in all assignments, make sure to cite your sources in your work and provide references for those citations utilizing APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between one or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Part 1:

In this era of concerns about health, diet, and obesity, there are a multitude of diets and weight loss products (including pills and surgery) on the market. The social norms seem to be shifting to a healthier lifestyle, with obesity being targeted as a major health problem. This leads individuals to seek help in weight loss and obesity. For example, in order to be successful after bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery), a person has to change his or her lifestyle—which often includes monitoring what he or she eats and when.

Explain the difference between a person who has to maintain a strict regimen of healthy living and diet to not be obese and a person who is diagnosed with an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa.
Review the National Institute of Mental Health’s information regarding eating disorders. Describe the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and provide an explanation of the common factors relating to acquiring the disorder, how it is diagnosed, and its treatment.

Part 2:

Impulse control can be defined as an inability to control the desire for a substance or act. The lack of impulse control is seen as a factor related to substance abuse but it is not the only factor. Research information on addictions and the two types of addictions (substance addictions and behavioral addictions). Choose one substance addiction and one behavioral addiction and answer the following:

Describe each addiction including potential genetic and environmental factors leading to the addiction. Describe the common symptoms, especially those that impact the person both physically and psychologically. Describe the common treatments for the disorders.
Explain why a person with an addiction may have a difficult time accepting he or she has an addiction, seeking treatment, and abstaining from the addiction without relapsing.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings. Comment on the postings of at least two peers, and provide an analysis of each peer’s postings while also suggesting specific additions or clarifications for improving the discussion question respons

Consider the following scenario.

You are the safety and occupational health professional for your city’s health department. You received a call from a major food-distribution warehouse about some employees who are complaining of dizziness and feeling sick.

The scene is a very large warehouse; a significant portion is refrigerated. The illnesses are being reported from a refrigerated section (about 40 degrees F), where workers are blister packing food products on a production line. The warehouse has 20 loading docks, two railroad car lines that end directly inside the warehouse (in close proximity to the production area), a dozen or so gas powered forklifts, and no sensors or environmental monitors of any kind except those associated with the refrigeration systems.

The warehouse manager is cooperative, but he points out that he is in the middle of contract negotiations with the union. He is also very proud of the fact that they have special seals on the loading dock doors and throughout the warehouse to keep the cold in and the heat out.

You cannot identify any discernible odors other than the exhaust from the forklifts when they move by you. There are four women waiting for you in the break room complaining of dizziness and lightheadedness. They are all comparing and complaining about their symptoms. There are 14 employees who work in this area of the warehouse: 12 women and 2 men.

Instructions:

Based on the given scenario, develop a plan of action that includes how you would conduct the investigation, how you would identify possible sources of the problem, and your opinion on the likely source. BOS 3001, Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Health 4

Discuss the standards applicable to possible sources. Include several recommendations you would make to the manager to help solve the problem based on your research into documented best practices for similar situations. Gonzalez-Padron (2015) wrote,

Ethical dilemmas occur when a situation requires an individual to choose among alternatives that create a values conflict among stakeholders. In these situations, a conflict develops between the personal moral philosophy of the employees and the organization’s goals or culture. (Introduction, para. 4)

Organizations are always at risk for ethical dilemmas of some kind. Without revealing names of specific individuals, explain how an organization similar to the one you currently work in, or an organization that you may be aware of, is at risk for ethical dilemmas. Why is this? What other fields are at risk?

From a managerial ethics perspective and considering some of the areas that were brought up in Week Two, Discussion 1, consider the following statement by Hagel (2015):

The demand for greater transparency from consumers and stakeholders across the world has pushed the areas of ethics and compliance up the corporate list of priorities in recent years. In addition, the risk to reputation and potential damage that can be done if evidence of unethical practice is discovered have increased significantly with the advent of social media.(para. 2)
